The 6th graders worked on verbs all week and did some practice problems on noredink.com. They seem to love that website and it really helps them learn to identify verbs and use them in the right tense. They are always welcome to do lessons on noredink.com. We ended the week with our verb test. They got to use notes and those grades will be in before Thanksgiving break.
They also have been working hard on their November Book Projects. Those are due November 30th. Make sure they have a good start on it because Thanksgiving break goes by quickly and it will be due shortly after we get back.
This week for spelling, we did a contest. Every week I take points off for spelling errors on the packet. The purpose of the packet is for them to practice the spelling the words correctly three times, which they can all do because the spelling lists are on each page of the packet and they would just have to copy them down. This week anyone who spells all the words correctly on their packets does not have to do spelling the week after Thanksgiving. Let’s see how many students will have to do spelling next week. Hopefully they all took their time and no one will have to do it!
I am going to place a book order before Thanksgiving, so if you want to order any books, please do so before Tuesday the 22nd. You can order online with the code (JQ8XW under Miss Thomas) or bring the orders and money to me by Tuesday.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving break! I know I will!

This week in math, the sixth graders fine tuned their skills on calculating unit rate to find the best deal! They were very excited to get to use their calculators to get the unit rate and then practice rounding to the hundredths place for money. You should have some good helpers at the grocery store finding the best price! We finished the week with a Kahoot to review Module 6 and took the Module 6 quiz on Ratios, Rates, & Unit Rates.
Next week we will move on to graphing equivalent ratios and solving proportions.
Have a great weekend!

We began working on Colonial America to start the week. This chapter examines the beginning of the New England, Middle, and Southern Colonies. This week we examined the New England colonies of Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire. We discussed how the religious differences in England forced many of Separatists to make the pilgrimage to North America for the freedom to practice their religion without persecution. We heard the tale of the first Pilgrims and their struggle to make it through the first winter in Plymouth. We also investigated the conflicts that began between the settlers and the groups of Native Americans. Next week we will continue to make our way south as week look at the middle and southern colonies. Have a great weekend.
Please contact me via e-mail if you have any questions or concerns.

The students will be having their chapter 19 test on Thursday, December 8th! A study guide will go home with test specifics on Monday or Tuesday next week. Until then, they have all the information they need in their star packet, interactive notebook and galaxy flip chart so they can look over the material at anytime. They also have the vocabulary they can review using Quizlet. This last week we watched a video on the International Space Station(ISS) and I have provided them with a list of dates through December 16th that they can actually view the ISS moving over our area! Have a great weekend!

This week the sixth graders participated in a few days of bowling. At the beginning of the two classes they practiced their technique and then toward the end of class they played a cooperative group game called 10 pins up/10 pins down. On Thursday, they started a 10 frame game and kept track of their score.
Have a fantastic weekend!
