Federation Meeting + All Livestock Meeting: MONDAY
Please plan to attend the quarterly Federation Meeting on Monday, April 17 at 7:00 pm in the Farmers Room. The agenda and door code will be emailed to you on Monday. An all livestock meeting will take place immediately following the Federation meeting at approximately 8:00 pm. Many decisions that will impact summer programming and showcase events will be made at this meeting.
Animal ID Reminder: Get your 2023 ear tags
Stop in the Extension Office during business hours to pick up your 2023 ear tags before May 15. All tags must be in your animal and entered in 4-H Online by May 15. We will have tags available on Monday evening at the Federation and All Livestock meeting. Please complete this form if you would like to submit your order ahead of time. Additional animal ID information can be found on z.umn.edu/animalID.
Day Camp Registration Opens on MONDAY, April 17
All youth in Nobles County in grades K-5 (completed Spring 2023) are invited to 4-H day camps in June and July! All day camps will take place from 9:00 am - 12:00 noon. Day camps will take place across the county:
Robotics: June 5, Farmers Room
Gardening: June 28, Brewster City Park
Pollinators: July 12, Adrian Upper Park
Engineering Design, July 19, Worthington Centennial Park
New in 2023, youth who participate in day camp will have the opportunity to showcase their day camp learning at the Nobles County Fair in August. Registration is due two weeks before each event and the cost is $5 per participant. Financial assistance is available. Register via 4-H Online (mn.4honline.com) starting April 17.
Food Stand Committee Meeting
The Food Stand Committee will meet on Monday, April 24 at 6:00 pm in the Extension Office Conference Room. We are still in need of a food stand manager. Please contact Anna with ideas for who could manage the food stand this year.
Co-op Calf Pick Up
All youth participating in the 2023 Co-op Calf Program must attend calf pick up on Thursday, April 27 at 5:00 pm at the Nobles County Fairgrounds. Please reach out to Anna with questions.
FEEDBACK NEEDED: County 4-H App Survey
We are considering building a country-specific 4-H app for families to utilize during the fair and entire 4-H year. Please complete this survey by April 26, 2023. All thoughts about this project are needed and welcome.
LQA&E Registration Open
Livestock Quality Assurance & Ethics (LQA&E) training is required for any youth exhibiting livestock at the Minnesota State Fair. In partnership with local volunteers, Rock and Nobles County 4-H will offer this training to youth who need to either secure or renew their certification. This training is meant for youth in grades 6+.
The 2023 LQA&E Training is June 14, 2023 starting at 5:00 pm at the Adrian Elementary School (515 Oklahoma Ave, Adrian, MN 56110). The three-hour training will be finished by 8:00 pm. A meal will be provided to participants who register.
This training is free to attend. Youth must register by June 7, 2023. Register via 4-H Online (mn.4honline.com). Reach out to Anna if you have any questions or need to check your certification. LQA&E certification must be completed and submitted to the office by July 26 to be eligible to participate at the State Fair.
Ambassador Game Night with Rock County Ambassadors
Local Ambassador Opportunities
All youth in grades 6+ are invited to participate in our local ambassador program. As spring and summer approaches, there are many opportunities for ambassadors to help with county programming. We specifically need a couple ambassadors to help at an outreach event in April. Please take a look at the sign up and consider helping.
Register for 4-H Camp at Lake Shetek
Registration is currently open for 4-H Camp at Lake Shetek this summer! Visit the website for more information. Camp is open to all youth in grades 3-6. No prior 4-H experience is required to attend camp.
Landon Rogers Memorial Award
Nobles County 4-H announces the Landon Rogers Memorial Education Program for 4-H members in the county who are actively involved in or would like to be involved in the Minnesota 4-H Beef Project. One or two winning entrants will receive Landon Roger’s show equipment to use for the 2023 fair. The Show Equipment will be on loan from Landon’s Parents - Lance Rogers & Tami Rogers in memory of their son, Landon Rogers. Application Materials can be found at this link and are due on May 1.
State Ambassador Applications OPEN
Application materials for youth currently in grades 10 - 12 to apply for the 2023 - 2024 Minnesota 4-H State Ambassador program are open!
Minnesota 4-H State Ambassadors aim to reflect the diversity of the 4-H program. They serve as the face and voice of Minnesota 4-H to internal and external stakeholders. In their year-long role, the State Ambassadors attend local and regional 4-H meetings and events, speak and present at state and national conferences and events, visit with alumni and other 4-H supporters, and inspire youth to learn and lead through regional and state leadership workshops and trainings.

New Vision Sponsorships
New Vision Co-op is pleased to announce the 4-H Sponsorship program again this year. Youth who participate in Nobles County 4-H and patronize New Vision Co-op are encouraged to apply. The deadline to sign up is June 2nd, 2023. The application process is completely online this year.

Regional 4-H Alpaca/Llama Show
On My Own
A staying home alone class will be conducted for youth in grades 3 through 6 who are
now or plan to stay home on their own. Topics to be discussed include: emergency situations, first aid, checklist before you stay alone for the first time, kitchen safety, fire safety, making a 911 call, internet safety and more. Registration deadline is Monday, April 17, no registrations can be accepted after this date. z.umn.edu/OnMyOwnEngineering Design Challenge
The 4-H Engineering Design Challenge is a friendly challenge program for teams of youth in grades 3-8 and 7-12.
This year, youth will use principles of engineering to create a Rube Goldberg™ machine that completes a 2-step task designed to Take Your Best Shot and create a celebration
Participants will also have the option to showcase their designs in-person on August 7 at St. Cloud State University, or virtually on August 15.

Beyond the Water Bottle - A Plastic Adventure For All Youth
Join an adventure that will follow Chris Clover on two different journeys. In one adventure the water bottle is recycled and in another, the water bottle becomes litter. What happens to each bottle and where do they end up?
The process of recycling can produce anything from fabric to phones and toys. How does plastic impact Minnesota’s 10,000 lakes and rivers? Learn about ways youth can be change agents in reducing the use of single-use plastics and increasing recycling/repurposing, for their family, their club, their community, their country and their world.

Judges Training
The Extension Educators in Lincoln, Lyon, and Pipestone Counties welcome you to a 4-H judges clinic for those interested in judging 4-H projects at the County Fair on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at the Pipestone County Courthouse Community Room, Pipestone, Minnesota from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Both new and experienced judges are encouraged to attend.
To be a judge, you don't need to be a 4-H alum or an expert. You do need to know how to evaluate the learning that a 4-H'er has done. We will train you to do that.
Registration is requested by April 14. It is quick and easy! Call your local Extension office to sign up, or visit the link for more information/to register.
Bunny Barn Series
Get Hopping with the 4-H Rabbit Project
Southwest Minnesota 4-H has an exciting, in-person opportunity to get started with and deepen your knowledge and interest in the 4-H rabbit project! This program will have something for everyone! There will be excellent and insightful information for those who are thinking about being a part of the rabbit project, as well as tips on showmanship and other topics for youth who already are a part of the project.
Youth will have an opportunity to learn about rabbit showmanship & handling, feeding & conditioning to get your rabbit show ready, what the differences are between rabbit breeds, and how to keep your rabbit healthy!
Date: Saturday, May 13, 2023
Time: 9 AM - 11 AM, with time for questions and- 4-H animal ID assistance afterwards
Location: Lincoln County Fairgrounds in Tyler
Registration is just $5 (payable at the door) and can be completed here. (Parents are invited to attend as well, and are free to attend with their children.)
