Deforrestation
Stop deforestation!
Issues of deforestation
Deforestation in those regions wipes out critical habitat, disrupts ecosystems and leads to the potential extinction of many species, including irreplaceble species that could be used to make medicines, which might be essential for cures or effective treatments of the world's most devastating diseases.
Deforestation also contributes to global warming—tropical deforestation accounts for about 20 percent of all greenhouse gases
Effects of deforestation
Healthy forsts absorb greenhouse gasses and carbon emission that are caused by human civilization and contribute to global climate change. Without trees, more carbon and green house gasses enter the atmosphere whenever deforestation occurs evem more greenhouse gas goes into the atmosphere. Deforestaion is 15% of greenhouse gas emission.
Animals affected by deforestation
Golden Lion Tamarin
The Golden Lion Tamarin is native to the Amazonian region of the world and is a very unique species. However, as an endemic species it is badly affected by deforestation for timber and agriculture in the Amazon, and this has resulted in it becoming endangered.
The giant Panda
The Giant Panda is currently listed as 'endangered'. The development of China and the subsequent urban-rural migration of much of the countries population, has resulted in the clearing of many forests, subsequently confining the Giant Panda to fragmented mountain habitats in Western China.
The mountailn gorilla
The Mountain Gorilla has become critically endangered as a consequence of their natural habitat being deforested, predominantly for cattle ranching. In order to conserve this species it is imperative that more is done to protect their habitat, as they rely on the indigenous bamboo for their survival, yet it is being continously removed from the area.
America affected by deforestation
United States deforestation has caused the destruction of virgin forests by 90 percent since 1600. At the rate of deforestation currently in the United States, only one-fourth of the forests standing today will be standing in 70 years.
Are we affected in League City?
Yes, large amounts of are that used to be filled with trees have been cut down to fill parking lots, to buil buildings etc. And killed off many native animals that used to live here.
How are people affected?
For those living directly in areas of the deforested trees, they undergo displacement and they have to adjust to living differently. This is mostly applicable to the indigenous people. Also, deforestation also has more wide scale effects in people in that it can contribute to global warming.
Who causes deforestation?
Large gready company's who dont think about nature, but only think of their companies. Companies who want more land for dumb things like buildings, parking lots etc..
Solutions that people have come up with
People chain themselves to trees to prevent companies from cutting down the trees. Some companies plant a new tree in place of the one they cut. Clear cutting of forests must be banned. This will curb total depletion of the forest cover. It is a practical solution and is very feasible.

-The Lorax, Dr. Seuss
Solutions that we (as a group) have
We can post this flyer everywhere and hope that people will read it and want to help. We can plant more trees and encourage other people to also plant trees. We could try and find a replaemnet for paper like, working on the computer more.
