2015-2016 LVES Weekly Staff Newsletter

Week of February 1-5, 2016

Monday's Professional Development

Dr. Lofton sent an email yesterday with directions on how to sign up for Monday's professional development. This is a new format, so I hope you enjoy being able to choose activities that best fit your needs. Don't forget to sign up for "Dealing with Challenging Parents", presented by Eric and me...it's going to be so good, that we may just take it on the road:-).

I will include the PD session attachment in the email, so you can register in Eduphoria. All sessions will be held at LVHS.

Tier 2 Meetings Thursday

We will review progress on your Tier 2 students. Please make sure that you have attached a copy of the most updated progress monitoring document (not a grade print-out) in Aware before Thursday's meeting. It is very important that the intervention forms and progress monitoring documents are current in Aware, especially if we are looking at moving to a higher tier. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions or need help with uploading anything in Aware.

"Soup"er Bowl Luncheon on Friday

Super Bowl is always my favorite sporting event, and I always get a little sad at the end because that means football is over until August. This Super Bowl is very exciting for me, because my beloved Broncos, led by THE man Peyton Manning, will be playing! So, let's enjoy this annual sporting event by having a "Soup"er Bowl Luncheon on Friday, February 5th. The office will provide the main dishes (soups and Holt's Famous Chili) and decorations, and grade levels will provide the following:

  • Kindergarten - Drinks
  • 1st Grade and Specials - Appetizers
  • 2nd Grade - Desserts
  • 3rd Grade - Paper goods (bowls, napkins, utensils, cups)
  • 4th Grade, SPROG and SPED - Side dishes and condiments (salads, fruit, cheese, etc)

We will set up in the conference room Friday morning. Don't forget to wear your favorite football jersey too!

PLC's this week...

There will be a slight change to PLCs next week due to the Technology Team being at the TCEA conference. If your class has Technology class next week for PLC, please take your class to PE. Thanks for being flexible!

LVISD Education Foundation Grants

It's that time of the year to submit grant proposals to the LVISD Education Foundation. Dr. Lofton sent an email earlier this week with the link to the proposal form. LVES submitted and received a lot of grants last year, so if you have an innovative idea that needs some funding, I encourage you to submit a proposal. Our Lucy Calkins Units of Study were made possible thanks to the Education Foundation.

Here is the link for the proposal and more information about the process:

DRA and IStation

All DRAs should be in Aware before you leave this afternoon. Let me know if you are having any issues with entering your DRAs.

Spring GT Screening

The deadline to refer students for Spring GT testing is February 1st. Remember that teachers can refer students for GT testing too. So, if you have a student that you think should be tested for GT, see Heather Womack for the referral form. Kindergarten students will also be screened with parent consent.

Exchange Days

I know that April and June are still a few months away, but we all know that the Spring semester flies by. If you would like to have April 18th and June 3rd off, then you must complete 12 hours of professional development before April 1st. This professional development must be completed off your contract time (after school or on weekends). There are lots of online professional development opportunities that were listed in the PD information from the beginning of the year.

I am including the link to the PD information:

You must submit certificates of completion for your professional development through Workshop in Eduphoria. If you any questions or problems submitting certificates, please let me know.

Donation Piles

I love that you are taking the time to go through your files, closets, etc and purging/donating materials that you no longer want. However, the donation pile in the workroom is getting a little big. If you put materials in the workroom for others to take, and those materials are still in the workroom, please dispose of the materials before you leave today. Thanks for your help!

Faculty Meeting

This week's faculty meeting is for the Leadership Team. We will meet in the conference room at 3:05 pm. K-3 reading teachers, please meet in the library at 3:05 pm to receive training from Janna Oliver on the BLS cards. This is a strategy in our CIP to address phonological awareness.
