Lusitania
In May 1915, a German submarine sank the British steamboat called Lusitania which killed nearly 1,200 poeple. There was oveer 100 American people including a Texan named R.T. Moodie of Galveston. He died trying to save a women and baby. This sinking angered many Americans.

There were two teams the Allies- Britain, France, Russia, Italy and the United States/ And the Axis- Germany, Austria-Hungary, The Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria.
Kelly Field
WWI was the first war that airplanes were used to a significant extent. Almost all the American soldiers who flew military planes trained at Kelly Field in San Antonio.

Question 1- What caused the U.S. to enter WWI?
The boat bombings and the letter to Mexico about Texas.
Question 2- How did Texas play an important role during the war?
Texas was an important location because recruits trained at camps in Texas and the railroad network in Texas helped move men and equipment quickly. There was many military bases/units in Texas.Many African Americans from Texas joined to fight.Also many Mexicans wanted to fight in the war from Texas. Colonel Edward M. was one of President Wilson's most trusty advisers.
Question 3- How did WWI end?
Germany had formally surrendered on November 11, 1918, and all nations had agreed to stop fighting with a treaty of peace.

In the 1930's sever dust storms moved through the plains that caused dry land farming and sever droughts. The Dust Bowl was also know as the Dirty Thirties.
Black Tuesday
It was October 29, 1929 when nearly 16 million shares were traded from panicked sellers on the New York Stock exchange. Black Tuesday is often said to be the beginning on the Great Depression.

The Wall Street Crash of 1929, also known as the Stock Market Crash of 1929, began on October 24, 1929 and was the most devastating stock market crash in the history of the United States.
Herbert Hoover’s involvement in the Great Depression
Herbert Hoover was the president during the Great Depression and was blamed for the stock market crash.
Question 1- How did FDR, (Franklin Delano Roosevelt) pull the country out of depression?
He promised to make the federal government more active and created The New Deal. The New Deal aimed to fix the problems that the Great Depression caused. It relieved the poor, jobs for the unemployed, recovery for the economy, and economic reforms to prevent another depression.
Question 2- What caused the Dust Bowl and how did it affect farmers in Texas?
The economic depression extended the drought and unusually high temperatures helped cause the Dust Bowl with it hard to plant for the farmers. There was also poor agricultural practices and wind erosion all contributes to creating Dust Bowl. Farmers in Texas were affected because the Dust Bowl was in parts of Texas
Question 3- Which New Deal programs were important to Texas.
One of the new deal programs was sponsored by Sam Rayburn that aimed at reforming how stocks were traded to prevent another stock market crash. Another new deal program was basically to fix the cities and create/help people get new jobs.
Question 4- How were tenant farmers and miners affected by the Great Depression?
the Great depression affected the farmers because they were not getting enough money by selling their food to the people. The Dust Bowl also affected the tenant farmers because there was dry land so nothing could grow. The miners lost their jobs during the Great Depression.

U.S. Army
This sign was posted on electric poles to gain more soldiers for WWII. The U.S army was weak because of WWI and the Great Depression but many people joined any way. There were so many people that fought in the war or helped out.
Holocaust
The Holocaust also known as the Shoah, was a genocide in which Adolf Hitler's Nazi Germany killed about six million Jews.
Pearl Harbor
On December 7, 1941 hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the U.S navel base at Pearl Harbor The Japaneses managed to destroy nearly 20 U.S. navel vessels and over 300 airplanes. More than 2,000 U.S soldiers and sailors died on the attack, and many were injured. The day after, President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared war on Japan.

Adolf Hitler was a German politician who was the leader of the Nazi Party. He was the Chancellor of Germany from 1933 to 1945, until he committed suicide.

How did Texas contribute to the nation’s military effort in fighting World War II?
Texans of all ethnic groups volunteered to fight. Others were drafted into the armed forces. Texas sent a greater share of its population into the service than any other state. By war’s end in 1945, some 750,000 Texans had served.
How did life changed for Texans on the home front during World War II?
Texan's and other states had to preserve food and grow more because the army had to get tons of food so thee soldiers would be healthy and strong. Texan's didn't get meat that often during the war because all the soldiers ate it. Food was rashioned and many loved ones had to fight
How did WWII end?
On May 8, 1945, the allies accepted Germany's surrender, and about a week later Hitler commits suicide. But the Japanese is not done! They decide to drop a bomb on Pearl Harbor which causes the U.S. to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Japanese finally decide to surrender, The ALLIES WIN!!!!!!
