"Turrill Tough" Challenge for September
Every month, we will be comparing the total number of office referrals from this year to last. Every month that the number of referrals is less, all students will earn a school-wide reward.
Unfortunately, our September office referrals increased this year compared to last year from 39 (September '16) to 47 (September '17).
"Coffee with the Principal" Update
- 3rd Grade Reading Bill
- Literacy Center update
- the role of the Learning Coaches
- Our MTSS program.
Literacy Center Grand Opening!
We are ready to have our Literacy Center's grand opening next week! The first week's agenda will be a little different.
Each class will come down during their scheduled time for their own ribbon cutting, brief tour, and a scavenger hunt. Afterwards, students will be encouraged to find a book and a place around the room to read for the remainder of the time. As of now, a decision hasn't been finalized on the best way to check books in and out, so students will not be taking any books from the library quite yet. We'd like them to learn to love the space and get excited about reading in there.
For those teachers who have two slots in a week, the second visit could consist of reading in a special spot again and any other literacy activity the teacher would like to do. A Learning Coach will accompany each class during the first visit. Volunteers have been assigned to almost all class visits and their training will begin next week as we develop the system for checking books in and out.
For those who have their first visit on Monday, their grand opening will happen the following Monday. We are excited for students to start using the room and begin our k-3 take home reading program!
