Message from the Principal
Hello parents,
High school students began recruiting friends and formulating teams for the upcoming Academic Bowl at the end of January. Teams consist of five students including a captain, four regular players and an alternate. The tournament is open to 16 teams of students in grades 9 - 12. These teams compete answering trivia questions submitted by teachers. The board is filling up quickly with eager participants. Who will win the 42nd annual Academic Bowl?
A photographer from the yearbook came to Woodbury this week to take pictures for all clubs and activities. Participants came down to the auditorium as a group and posed for pictures that will memorialize their involvement in these organizations.
The counseling department is finalizing preparations for their upcoming meetings with students about course selection for next year. Yes, you read that correctly. Course selection for the 2019-20 school year will begin soon. Counselors will have meetings with students in each grade level explaining both the requirements and the options available. Look for more information in the coming weeks.
Also this week, Ms. Grimes, Mr. Dobbins and myself presented before the Board of Education an update on the new schedule. We shared Junior High and High School student survey data. We shared staff survey data and provided the Board with administrative perspectives on the schedule. There are many positives to the changes that were implemented. We will look to solicit additional feedback and incorporate suggestions for tweaks and improvement for next year.
On Monday we celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by hosting our 11th annual Day of Service. While there are no classes, high school students are encouraged to participate in our 'Day On, Not a Day off' and earn service learning hours. We have partnership agreements with places around town where our students will come in and work to better our community. This has traditionally been a fantastic event that kicks off with an assembly featuring guest speakers, student performances, and more. A hearty breakfast will be served to participants before they board a bus and get out into the community to work. We hope to see many smiling faces next week!
Have a great weekend!
Keep Love Present,
Dr. Vivadelli
