Pirates Arrggh Better Together!
Parents you are doing a great job with car riders in the afternoon. Here are a few reminders to make things go even more smoothly. 1. Do not scan your QR code until you are in your assigned lane and parked. As soon as you sign in, a message is sent to your child's teacher and they dismiss them to car pool area. If you do this before you are in a lane, your child will be roaming aimlessly in the parking lot looking for you and of course this just slows down the process. 2. Please pull in CLOSE to the car in front of you. This allows us to speed up the process for everyone.3. Please DO NOT BLOCK lanes. If your lane is full, pull to the lane to the left of your designated lane, we will look there for you and this again is better for everyone. If you do not have a small yellow QR code to keep in your vehicle, please swing by the school to pick one up or ask for one in the carpool line. Every day please pull into your assigned lane (always the grade level of the youngest child, even if they are absent), unless it is full, then go to the lane to the left. You can then use the QR to check yourself in by scanning the code and following the promptings on your screen. If you are having issues, just waive one of the staff members down and we will try to help you. You do need to make sure that you have your login information and your pin number. I suggest writing this on the QR code itself and keeping it in the car at all times. If you need multiple QR codes for multiple cars, just let us know.
This week we have a couple exciting events occurring on campus. This is Start with Hello Week. Start with Hello is a program created by Sandy Hook Promise to promote student kindness and connectiveness with one another. Students will be participating in a variety of activities in the classes and we would like to encourage everyone to WEAR GREEN on WEDNESDAY! This week is also our Book Fair week. You can find more information in our newsletter (below).
Impact Aid cards will go home with all students. We ask that you complete them and return them the next day. On Wednesday, interim reports will go home with students, please sign and return them. Parent conference will begin soon. Be on the look out for sign ups. Thursday is an EARLY RELEASE day for all OCS students. Car riders will be dismissed at noon and bus riders will arrive home 3 hours earlier than usual. Please make sure that you have made arrangements for the early release.
Please pack an extra pair of clothes for your child for the "just in case" accidents/spills occur. Also, all Health Assessments and Immunizations are due 9/22 per NC State law. Nurse Mollie sent home reminders at the beginning of the year and last week.
Please keep your child home if they are experiencing any Covid-like symptoms, have been exposed, or anyone in the family has test results pending. We are doing our best to prevent the spread, but need everyone's help. If you have any questions about these policies, please visit the OCS website for additional information. If you need to report any positive cases, Covid like symptom, or test results, please call the school 910-326-1501 or email Nurse Mollie (mollie.sammons@onslow.k12.nc.us) and/or Page Highsmith (page.highsmith@onslow.k12.nc.us).

COMMUNICATION IS CRITICAL for your child's success:
1. The teacher is always the first point of contact. If you cannot resolve an issue after meeting with the teacher, please schedule an appointment to meet with administration.
2. See our data manager (Lori Jones) to sign up for Parent Portal. This gives you up to date info on student attendance and assignments for (3rd-5th grade).
3. Pay attention to the weekly ALL CALL and EMAIL that is sent out every Sunday evening. If you don't want to listen to the message, no worries, the email contains the transcript as well as important links and cute pictures of our students:) If you are not receiving the call and email, please let Lori Jones (lori.jones@onslow.k12.nc.us) know so that we can make sure your info. is up to date. This is the method that we will use to communicate with parents in the event of an emergency, so you need to make sure that you are receiving these calls.
4. Check out our school website: https://www.onslow.k12.nc.us/swansboroes
5. Check out our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/swansboroelementaryschool/
6. Remember, for safety reasons, we do not give out student information over the phone and all changes in transportation must be done through School Dismissal Manager.
7. If there are custody issues, we must have a copy of the current custody paperwork on file with a judge's signature. If not, both parents have equal access to the student and their educational records.
8. If you have concerns regarding bus routes, stops, schedules and drivers, please direct those concerns to our transportation coordinator Judy O'Donald at 326-1436. SBES does not have direct communication with the buses; therefore, this must go through the transportation dept. Please remember if you would like to stay up to date with bus changes and delays, please download the Edulog Parent Portal App. More info can be found here:https://www.onslow.k12.nc.us/Page/1266.
