The Great Kindness Challenge
Be Kind, Do Kind
“Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.” ~Dalai Lama
Hello wonderful teachers of Green Run Elementary!
Across the division, January is bullying prevention and awareness month. When I delivered my guidance lessons to students in December, I introduced them to the Great Kindness Challenge and the Be Kind, Do Kind initiative as a way to talk about bullying without focusing on the word bullying.
Thursday, January 22 begins our RASK/Kindness Challenge/Spirit week at Green Run! Each day will serve as a different kindness challenge. I'm challenging all students to do as many kind acts for one another as possible and to keep track of their kind acts using the Challenge checklist and/or adding their kind act to the caring tree (hearts are available by my door where students drop-off/pick-up appointment request slips).
Also, as part of the challenge (and beat a Guinness Book of World record!) to make the most kind-hearted hand prints, during Art, students are using hand cut-outs to write or draw pictures that represent kindness and kind activities (page 43 of the attached workbook if you happen to have time available for students to create an extra one). Also, during Music, students are listening to a song about kindness.
Thank You for all that you do and Thank You So Much for anytime you may take to help me with this project!
*Attached is a toolkit that I am using for my lessons on kindness and bullying this month that may have a few things that you could adapt. https://www.randomactsofkindness.org/lesson-plans-pilot-program is another great resource. Kindness workbooks will go home with all students on January 29th!
