Attendance Reminders
Students are not allowed to email/call themselves out or excuse an absence. Parents still need to continue to do so. (Lshsattendance@isd194.org or 952-232-3318)
information:
Your name
Your relation to your student
The spelling of your student’s first and last name
A call back number that we have on file
A reason for the absence. If no reason is listed in the voicemail or email, the absence will be marked as unexcused.
If your student is sick, please call attendance and list the symptoms of the illness. Please continue to report positive COVID-19 cases.
If you have a change in your email, please update the Parent Portal for accurate information on file.
Attendance Phone Calls
During Distance Learning 2.0, the school district’s automated attendance system will continue to place calls and emails to families to notify them when students have missed a class. Messages are recorded to play first in English, then in Spanish. We have made some changes to the call.
We hope by sending an email in addition to a shorter robocall, families will be able to hear the entire message, and be able to re-reference the attendance message right in their email inboxes.
If you miss all or part of the recording and would like to hear the message again, please use the phone that received the message to call the replay line: 1-855-473-7529.
You will be able to choose to replay the last message that was sent to your phone from the school district’s automated system. If you received a phone call, please refer to your student’s attendance in the Parent Portal for more detailed information.
Attendance Policy-Parent Guidelines
It is the School District’s expectation that every student attends school every day. Parents are required to report excused absences within five school days. The School District discourages parents from excusing the following types of absences:
1) Oversleeping
2) Haircuts or other errands
3) Babysitting
4) Shopping
5) Senior pictures
6) Driver’s education lessons/testing
We encourage you to please continue to schedule appointments out the school hours of 10 am to 2 pm if at all possible.

Communicating with Teachers
Teachers are also available via email. They will respond to communication within 24 hours Monday-Friday.
Opportunities Day Update
Every year, high school students in the district complete several career readiness activities that are required for graduation. Usually, these activities are completed on Opportunities Day, but due to the learning model changes this year, we will provide these opportunities in a different format.
Rather than completing their career readiness activities on a single day, students will have the flexibility to complete them on or before March 2. We will email these activities to students in mid-January, which is when they can start working on them.
Below is a general description of what the expectation will be by grade level.
Grade 9: Using MCIS, 9th grade students will develop their personal learning plan, prepare a course plan for the remaining three years in high school, and complete a career assessment.
Grade 10: Using MCIS, 10th grade students will further develop their personal learning plan by preparing a course plan for the remaining two years in high school, and listen to industry professional videos in the career field of their choice.
Grade 11: All students in 11th grade will take the ACT on March 2nd. They will also complete a virtual college visit and complete a reflection questionnaire by May 3.
Grade 12: Students in 12th grade typically complete a Job Shadow requirement. This year, students will have the choice of completing the job shadow, taking the district approved career investigation course, or completing career research in MCIS. Details will be emailed to seniors by December 15th.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we adapt Opportunities Day to work with this unique school year. As mentioned, you can expect to receive more information about these career readiness activities in mid-January. Until then, take care.
