Technology
On Friday's Workday, I will be visiting rooms to check in on the operation of all things technology. If there are items you want collected because you are not using them, please have them ready for me to pick up.
Media Center
Middle School teachers, your students can come check-out books in small groups anytime during the day. Students will use their Student ID when checking out books. There are many new books that you chose from the book fairs last year waiting for students to read. Hope to see your students soon.
Discovery Education. If you haven't checked out it out lately they have made some great changes. Discovery Education just isn't for videos. There are tutorial interactives for students in math, science topics, and social studies. There Spotlight on Strategies has a lot of ideas to help students use literacy strategies across the content and NOT focused on using Discovery Education Resources. Check it out their SOS webpage
Community Partners' Announcements
We couldn’t be more thrilled to kick-off this year of Watch D.O.G.S. and see the excitement it brings to all our Frontier Students!
We want to thank everyone who helped with our Watch D.O.G.S. Kickoff on the 15th!
We had 58 ‘Dads’ join us for out kick-off night with almost 30 Watch D.O.G.S. dates already taken! We consider that a BIG success, especially considering these were all new Watch D.O.G.S.!
For each class visit, the teacher will receive an appointment for their calendar which will include the Watch DOG's name, & child along with the date and time of the appointment. If an appointment does not work for your class, please decline the appointment, so we can schedule him elsewhere. If the appointment is not declined you can expect the Watch DOG to come to your classroom.
Our goal for our Watch DOGS is to help with a group or any other activity that gives them direct interaction with students. We also hope that this program affords you more time to have direct contact with students. So if you have a Watch DOG in your room, please engage them and keep them busy.
Please let us know if you have any questions about this program and we thank you all for helping to make this amazing program a success!
Thank you so much for all you do to make Aurora Frontier a wonderful place to learn! Have a great week! -Brandi & Shelly
We want to congratulate Ms. Post, our 1st winner of the Farmers Yardeny Agency's Thank America's Teacher of the month campaign.
Ms. Post won a $100.00 gift card to Beyond the Blackboard and her students won a class party! Thank you to Pie 5 of Southlands for providing shirts and pizza's.
A huge thank you goes out to Michelle and Andrew at The Farmers Yardeny Agency of Southlands for arranging this fun lunch and visiting Frontier this week!
The Yardeny Agency will be recognizing one teacher and their class each month with a special gift as a way to say "Thank you for all the hard work and dedication."
PTO Announcements
Our next PTO meeting will be Thursday, October 20th, starting at 7:00 p.m. and will be sponsored by Trion Promotion & Design. We hope you'll join us!
Staff Member Grant
The Aurora Frontier P-8 PTO invites you to participate in the Staff Member Grant Program. PTO allocates funds for staff members to purchase items which will promote innovative teaching, improve curriculum, and enhance student life at Aurora Frontier P-8. Grant requests may be for projects, activities, books, field trips, equipment, etc. that enhance the academic lives of our students.
Grant request should be submitted at least one weeks prior to the monthly PTO meeting you wish to ask for funds and a staff representative must be present during such meeting. *Please note, PTO does not hold meetings in November or December.
Please let Brandi or Shelly know if you need a copy of the grant form or if have any questions or concerns regarding the request.
School Wish List
What does Aurora Frontier need? This year, PTO wants to create a School Wish List to help when we budget our fundraiser funds for the year. Are there certain items that the school can always use or maybe a particular piece of equipment, technology or furniture that would help us fulfill our commitment to our children's education? Examples of some wish list items might be: Raz Kids membership, class sets of book bins, benches for our playground, or more playground equipment and covers over playgrounds, maybe it's even more chrome books or other technology!
We would love to get a better idea from the Frontier Staff on the needs of our school! Although we will welcome ideas all year, the sooner we receive your ideas the quicker we can compile the school wish list and work on prioritizing our funds to meet everyone's needs.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Skate City
Mark your calendars and don't forget to join us for our next Skate City Night, Wednesday, November 9th, 4-6pm! The class with the most students in attendance will win the Golden Skate and a Pizza Party during their lunch, so please encourage your students to participate in this fun Falcon event! Congratulations to Mrs. Whitted's class who won the Golden Skate in August and celebrated with a pizza party this past week!
Butter Braids
Information and order forms will be coming home soon for our Fall Fundraiser ~ Integrity Fundraising, selling Butter Braids®! For those of you that are not familiar with Butter Braid® pastries – you’ll wonder how you ever lived without them. Your taste buds will surely thank you! All funds raised will be used for Staff Member Grant Requests and other school needs! Please help us do all we can to improve our school, help our staff, and enhance the education our children receive.
Start date: 10/24
End date: 11/07
Delivery date: 11/16 - Right before the Holidays!
No-Fuss Fundraiser
Aurora Frontier PTO is offering a new option for those who may be too busy or overburdened with several organizations to fund raise. This fundraiser is in lieu of our annual catalog sales or other fundraisers as an option to still give back to Frontier as we all know life is just too busy! This fundraiser also allows for 100% of your donation to go back to the school and is easily shared with family and friends near and far! As an incentive, all families that donate $50.00 or more by November 11th will be placed into a drawing for an ipad. Drawing to be held at our Annual Turkey Trot on November 19th!
Just a reminder, this is an OPTION for all families! Meaning, they can participate in this fundraiser only or decide to participate in other fundraisers offer at Frontier instead or both!
We thank you for your continued support in making Aurora Frontier P-8 an excellent school for all our children to learn and grow.
Have a great week! - Aurora Frontier P-8 PTO
District News / Bond Information
We are sending you this email as a reminder about our new interactive map that shows the 2016 bond projects proposed for each school. We are excited to have the first interactive map of its kind in Colorado. The map can be viewed at: bond.aurorak12.org/projects/.
The $300 million bond measure focuses on computer and technology upgrades to support 21st Century teaching and learning, critical building repairs and renovations, safety and security improvements, classroom additions to relieve overcrowded schools, and new schools to address projected long-term growth in east Aurora. If approved by voters in November, the bond would fund building and technology improvements at every school in the district.
We encourage you to learn more about the 2016 bond measure and share factual information with students, parents and community members. Staff members are also welcome to advocate for the bond outside of their normal work hours.
You can find more information about the proposed 2016 bond, including bond videos, a PowerPoint presentation, a fact sheet, and the 2016 Facility and Technology Needs Report prepared by the APS Long Range Facilities Advisory Committee, at bond.aurorak12.org. Please click on the staff resources tab at the top of the web page to access resources such as Employee Election Guidelines and school newsletter articles (NOTE: an APS Google login is required).
