SES Update

Week of September 19-23

The Ever Changing Kansas Weather

It is that time of the school year when the weather can be chilly in the morning and hot in the afternoon. Living in Kansas, you know to expect just about anything when it comes to the temperature. It is suggested that you dress your child in layers if possible. If the temperature is above 25 degrees (including wind-chill) we will remain outside in the mornings for Walk & Talk. This will be the case as long as the ground is not snow-covered and it is not raining or snowing.

In addition, the SES recess guidelines are as stated below:

-Regular outdoor recess: 20 degrees or above

-Limited/Shortened outdoor recess at teacher discretion: 11-19 degrees

-Indoor recess: 10 degrees or below

Please Note: Shorts are not to be worn after October 31st.

Labeling Jackets

Mrs. Kuckelman asked that I share with you how helpful it is to label your child's sweatshirts and jackets. As the weather changes and students begin to wear these items, they often take them off during physical education class when they are participating in an activity. Labeling helps to make sure the student gets the correct item of clothing back and it also helps to make transition time more efficient.

Accelerated Reader Access Update

Starting September 13, 2016, students taking Accelerated Reader tests may do so at school or at home from 6:00 am until 9:00 pm seven days a week. We have extended the hours and included Saturdays and Sundays to the access availability. If you are not sure if your child is taking AR tests, ask their teacher or contact Mrs. Bauerle, SES Media Specialist, and they will

be happy to let you know.

Progress Reports Sent Home

Progress reports will be sent home with students on Wednesday, September 21st. K-3 students will also have a letter that helps to clarify some information regarding their standards-based grade cards. 4th and 5th graders will have additional papers that let you know how they performed on the 2015-16 Kansas assessments. I encourage you to communicate with your child's teacher if you have any concerns or need additional information.
