Kindness Week
Over a 90-minute period of time, students in all divisions will learn about the science-backed effects of kindness, have opportunities to show gratitude, create public messages, and will even make something they can bring home to care for.
We encourage everyone in our community to practice continual kindness, but maybe put in some extra effort with some random acts of kindness over the break.

Pink Shirt Day: Wear Pink & Show Support for Anti-Bullying
Pink Shirt Day started with a random act of kindness in 2007. A student new to a high school in Nova Scotia, Canada wore a pink shirt to school and was bullied for the clothing choice. Two other students at the school wanted to do something about the bullying. They bought 50 pink tank tops and distributed them to other male students at the school, asking them to wear it so the new student who was bullied would feel like they belong. They all gathered in the hallway as the new student entered the school. It was a powerful moment for all and the bullying stopped immediately.
Pink Shirt Day is now celebrated across the globe to raise awareness about the harm bullying can do and as an effort to make all people, no matter who they are, feel like they belong.
Chartwell will partake in this year’s Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday, February 22. Faculty might be doing some activities and lessons around bullying leading up to the 22. We are encouraging all students and staff members to wear as much pink clothing as they can that day. We also have purchased supplies for students to make pink bracelets and will supply community members with anti-bullying stickers. Wearing pink on this day means that you are willing to recognize diversity as being crucial to human existence and growth, where we can learn from others, are sensitive to other's experiences, and prioritize kindness with an attempt for others to feel like they belong.
Supporting the Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG) Model Parent and Caregiver Group
This spring, our 2e and Learning Profile Specialist Jeff Morton will be facilitating a SENG (Supporting the Emotional Needs of the Gifted) Model Parent Group (SMPG). The group will run 8 weeks; each meeting will last 90 minutes. The exact dates and times of our meetings will be determined based on the input from participants and will be held her in person and on campus at Chartwell School.
SMPGs are a forum during which parents of gifted learners can come together to share their experiences and learn from each other. The group will also work through content presented in the book, A Parent’s Guide to Gifted Children. There is no cost for this group, but you are encouraged to purchase a copy of A Parent’s Guide to Gifted Children ($26.95 from Amazon).
If you are interested, please fill out this google form: SMPG Spring 2023 Interest Form. Note that this is open to all interested caregivers, and more than one caregiver from each family can sign up.
If you have any questions or want to discuss if this group would be a good fit for you, please contact Jeff at jmorton@chartwell.org.
