KINDERGARTEN CURRICULUM
Math-
In math this week we continued our learning of addition. This involved new vocabulary words like plus, equal and sum. And we practiced writing and solving addition equations.
Religion-
In religion, we continue to focus on the advent season, preparing our hearts for the coming Savior.
Guidance-
This week, Dr. Pannell shared the bucket metaphor with us to help us understand how what we say and do affects others. Are you filling or emptying someone's bucket? When a child is filled up, he/she is ready to be kind friend, even ready to learn.
Language Arts-
We are finishing up our adventures with Fritz from the SUPERKIDS program and have begun to work on the next character known as Ettabetta. Ettabetta likes rhyming games, secret codes, puzzles, and playing games.

Kindergarten Lunch and Bird Feeder Activity This Thursday At Mrs. Coleman's Backyard Spot
The kindergartners have been invited to have lunch on Thursday, December 17th at Mrs. Coleman's backyard spot located a half block from Mayfield Junior School on South Euclid Avenue. Each student should bring a brown bag or sack lunch for this outing. There will not be any way for the kindergarten staff to warm up food on this day.
Please cancel your child's hot lunch meal for Thursday, December 17th. You can contact our hot lunch vendor, California Fresh, to make arrangements to cancel the meal for Thursday.
We would also ask our parents to send in any pine cones you can spare for our students to take to Mrs. Coleman's backyard. We are going to make bird feeders for Mrs. Coleman's flying friends while visiting with her. We will take any pine cones donated as soon as possible so we can bring them with us on our trip this Thursday!

MJS Toy Drive To Benefit Pasadena Community
Thank you to all of our parents who generously gave toys to the MJS Toy Drive program to benefit families in the Pasadena area. Father Fausto visited with kindergarten and let the kindergartners know there are approximately 600 families signed up to receive toys for their children during the Christmas season. Thank you for bringing joy to those less fortunate in the community!
Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day 2016
Please mark your calendars! It may seem early, but Mayfield’s annual Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ day is right around the corner. We look forward to welcoming the ones we love on February 12, 2016. This is a special tradition, a day when Grandparents or Special Family Friends join students on campus for Mass and classroom activities. To insure we get an invitation to your child's special guest, please fill out the form here if this is your first year at MJS (or there are changes to the addresses from last year's invitation mailing): https://docs.google.com/forms/d/12VIQdERng0cKT1-D7Szb_StAXMSSNGZDWVkdrehN_I4/viewform

Carpool Update
A committee has been formed to address issues and concerns regarding the Mayfield Carpool experience. A new microphone to call out family names will be introduced for the end of the day carpool time to help us keep carpool moving smoothly.
