Instructional Information
Learning Targets & Success Criteria:
During our walk through visits last week Paul and I had great conversations with students about what they were learning, how they will know when they're successful, and why their work was important. Great job! We do expect that learning targets and success criteria are posted and integrated into your instruction. They can be posted on your board, projected in a document, in Canvas or on another platform as long as the students are clear on how to access them and they com alive in your lessons and activities. For a clear and concise refresher on Learning Targets and Success Criteria view the short video below titled Learning Intentions and Success Criteria. Learning Target and Learning Intention are interchangeable terms, here in Bethel we use Learning Target.
eVAL Self-Assessments and Observations:
Most of the account issues from last week have been resolved so please make sure your self-assessment is complete. If you are still having difficultly logging in please email your evaluator. By Friday, October 4, 2019 all teachers on the comprehensive evaluation cycle need to schedule your pre-observation, observation and post observation sessions with Brenda. Please let Paul or I know if you have any questions or concerns at anytime.

Second Step Lesson FOUR Themes
Once students understand that their brains are constantly growing and changing based on how they use them, this lesson helps them put that information into effective practice by emphasizing the key, research-based approaches of focusing on good strategies, getting help from others, and working hard.
Grade 7: Embracing Challenges
Many students avoid challenges because they’re afraid of making mistakes. These students are at a disadvantage in school and in life, because the most challenging work is often the most rewarding. This lesson encourages students to embrace challenges by demonstrating that mistakes are opportunities to learn, try new strategies, and get better.
Grade 8: Your Interests Matter
Research shows that adolescents who have a purpose that transcends self-interest report higher levels of happiness and success. This lesson prompts students to think about their interests and how they connect to something bigger, so they can make a difference in the world.
