CIS Weekly Update

#19: January 10-14

We are off and running in week #20 of the school year! As a reminder, we have no school on Friday (PD Day) and no school on Monday (MLK Jr. Day). We hope you and your family enjoy the long weekend.

As we continue to deal with COVID cases, please remember to keep your child home if he or she is sick. This will us to keep the spread of sickness down and hopefully keep more students in school. If you need a COVID test for your student then please reach out. We have a supply of them at the school for students and families. Thank you!

THANK YOU to our families for your support so far this school year. We value our partnerships and your words of encouragement and support of teachers has been very helpful!

You can even purchase gift certificates to go to Casa at a later date! THANK YOU in advance for supporting our PTO! We will send the flyer out prior to Monday.

COVID-19 Data Dashboard

Rather than continue to send out emails to families regarding the number of positive case each day, our school district now has a COVID-19 Data Dashboard on our website. This document is updated daily and you can refer to it if you'd like to know the number of positive cases at any point. Here is the link. COVID-19 DATA DASHBOARD

We are already accumulating many coats and sweatshirts in our lost and found. If you are missing any items, please remind your student to check the lost and found this week. Below are pictures of the lost and found.

Title I Family Game Night

Student Tardy Procedures & Guidelines

As a reminder, our school day starts each day at 9:05am. If arriving late, please bring your child to the attendance desk. You can also send a note or call the attendance desk. When a student is tardy to school, he/she will be asked to complete a tardy slip at the attendance desk. After two tardies within a grading period, students will have a consequence for being late to school. Here are the guidelines for tardies.

  • The first offense each grading period will be excused.
  • The second occurrence will result in a letter sent home.
  • Upon reaching the third and fourth tardy, a 30-minute after-school Thursday detention could be issued.
  • For the fifth and sixth tardy, a 60-minute after-school Thursday detention could be issued.
  • Once a student reaches his/her seventh tardy, a 120-minute, after-school Thursday detention could be issued.
  • Each grading period begins a new cycle.

Change in COVID-19 Isolation and Quarantine Guidelines

The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) released a statement that indicated they have adopted the new CDC guidance on isolation and quarantine; the Medina County Health Department notified us they have adopted the new guidance as well. The following is taken from the ODH press release:

"The Ohio Department of Health has released a flow chart based on the CDC’s updated guidance following an exposure to someone with COVID-19. Regardless of vaccination status or symptoms, anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 must isolate for at least 5 days. However, if symptoms are improving, isolation may end on the sixth day following either symptom onset or a positive COVID-19 test if the person consistently wears a mask for the next five days. Detailed quarantine and isolation guidance are available in the flow chart. The Ohio Department of Health has also updated K-12 school quarantine guidance including “mask to stay” and “test to play” timelines accordingly."

Our school district will follow the new guidance. While the new guidance is still being worked through, it appears that the only change to the guidelines we have been following is to the length of time someone must remain in isolation or quarantine.
