Mrs. Turley's Tidbits
Week of 5/1 - 5/5
Welcome to our Tadpoles and the Merry Days of May!
Fundations:
We began Unit 14 this week. This unit focuses on the vowel teams of ou and ow to make the sound of /ou/. The ow makes more than one sound as it can also be the sound of long o. Our "trick words" aren't too difficult...half of them are days of the week!
Literacy:
In honor of our four new class pets, our literacy work was focused on frogs, toads, and the life cycle of these amphibians. We are trying to be successful readers and use a variety of strategies to make sense of the key ideas and details in our text...and this week we became frog experts through our reading! We are HERPETOLOGISTS!
Math:
We continued our work in the Geometry and Fractions Unit. We completed the "Real World Experience" assessment for the Unit Application. We then took the pretest for Unit 6 - Arrays. We are on our way to multiplication!
Writing Workshop:
We are writing letters to persuade our audience of topics we care about and believe in strongly. YOU may receive on of these persuasive letters...please keep an open mind!
Frogs in our Room:
Our tadpoles arrived last Thursday after school and as of this date we STILL have FOUR!
We named them and they are - Captain, Wrigley, Polly, and Lightning! We are anxiously awaiting their first change...the hind legs. We think we spot them!
Aniyah took my desk for her "Sit Anywhere" Pass!
More "Sit Anywhere" passes were used by Frankie and Ana at the round table!
BFF's getting to sit together because of Olivia's "Sit Anywhere" pass!
Miles used a "Teach for Turley" pass this week!
So did Kevin!
Lunch with the Teacher was so much fun with Olivia, Miles, and Noah!
Murtuza and Miles were the FIRST ones to turn in their LAST book reports of 2nd Grade!
Miles and Noah showed their Lego skill and creativity...they spelled out my name!
Ana, our Lego Queen!
