Thanks and Best Wishes to Michele Gabriel
At Monday night’s meeting, the HSA received the resignation of Michele Gabriel from her position as 2nd Treasurer. The Gabriels have an exciting opportunity to relocate out of the area and will be moving by the end of the month. Our sincere thanks to Michele for all that she has done for Vernfield and the HSA. We wish her and the family all the best in their move.
2nd Treasurer Position Filled
We are very fortunate that Michele’s 2nd Treasurer position did not remain vacant for long. In accordance with the bylaws, Bernadette Kearns has been elected by the Executive Board to serve out the remaining portion of Michele’s term which ends at the end of this school year.
For those of you who do not know Bernadette, she is a past President of the HSA and she has been Committee Chair for our Science Rocks event since she introduced it several years ago. We welcome Bernadette back to the Board.

Holiday Shoppe Needs Parents to Organize and Coordinate the Event
The HSA needs Committee Chairs who are able to coordinate our Holiday Shoppe this year. Holiday Shoppe is scheduled to run from Monday, December 2 through Thursday, December 5 from 9 am through 3 pm with an hour break for lunch.
Committee Chairs must be present at the Shoppe throughout the 4 days to coordinate volunteers, oversee the student checkout and place orders for any additional inventory that is needed. Those duties can be broken down between multiple Chairs by days of the week, by morning or afternoon shift or an alternate method that would work for the committee. The committee will also coordinate set up, clean up and shipping the unsold products back to the company.
Pre-Shoppe preparations involve scheduling teacher slots and volunteer shifts through a Sign Up Genius which the previous Chairs have provided. Our organized outgoing team has also provided a step by step chart and timeline of the preparations needed. The initial Inventory is predetermined by the company that we contract with to provide the products.
Although December seems far in the future, we must have Committee Chairs in place by the time of the October HSA meeting in order to proceed this year.
We appreciate that volunteers have shown an interest in helping out at the Shoppe. If we have the necessary committee in place to organize this activity, sign ups will be available for volunteer shifts to help the students with their purchases.
If interested, please contact Lisa Hovind at lisa.vfhsa@gmail.com.
J&A Charity Vendor Bingo to Benefit Vernfield HSA
J&A will be running the Bingo portion of the event with 20 different vendors supplying the prizes. Our HSA will be handling all of the raffles and the sale of the bonus game cards.
If you tell them you are with Vernfield at the door, the $5 entrance fee goes directly to us at the end of the event! Each game is $1. Bonus round cards are $10 for a chance to win 1 prize from each of the vendors. Vernfield keeps all of the money we raise from sales of the bonus round cards.
Food will be available to purchase from their provider or you can bring your own. This is a family friendly event but you can BYOB.
More information about the event can be found on the J&A Facebook page. Any questions, contact Lisa Hovind at lisa.vfhsa@gmail.com
Fundraising Opportunity at Giant
Vernfield gets a $1 donation from Giant, you get a great, reusable bag and the environment gets less plastic - win, win, win!
In Case You Missed It...
ATHLETIC SHOE DRIVE:
The HSA has partnered with Got Sneakers for an Athletic Shoe Drive to raise funds and to help keep the shoes out of landfills. New or used sneakers in wearable condition will earn more for us but we will be accepting sneakers and cleats in any condition. Sneakers with rips, holes, separated soles will be recycled. Shoe donations will be accepted until the Thanksgiving break.
If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Hovind at lisa.vfhsa@gmail.com
