Georgia Milestones Administration

May 4, 2021

Greetings Talley Parents and Guardians,

Next week, the Georgia Milestones Assessment System (GMAS) test will be administered to our students. Testing will take place in the school setting. In-person students will test during the morning window of 8:15 - 11:15 a.m. Virtual students who have opted to test will do so during the afternoon window of 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. The following schedules specify the dates for each subject test.

Instructional Assignments During the Week of May 10 - 14

Our student workload will be lessened this week to help students demonstrate their best level of mastery and to help mitigate test anxiety. As such, teachers will provide independent and asynchronous (some synchronous for the virtual setting) work for students. Additionally, in-person students will not have access to their Chromebooks because they will remain in the classroom each day after testing to ensure the computers are fully charged for the next day. Teachers will give students alternative assignments/activities for the afternoons.

Parents of Virtual Students

A communication detailing when to arrive and where to report was emailed today to the parents of virtual students who will test. If your child is planning to test and an email was not received, please contact Arlethea Williams at awilliams@csdecatur.net.

GMAS Online Practice Tool

Students will have the opportunity to practice a few questions to become familiar with the format and tools of the assessment. In-person students will practice in class by the week’s end. Virtual students will practice on Monday, May 10 before beginning the actual exam.

Students can use the online practice tool at any time. After accessing the website, click on Test Practice, then Online Tools Training under End-of-Grade, Spring Main. Click EOG Test Practice, Standard Online, and Grades 3-5. Some questions may assess standards from a higher or lower grade level than your child’s. This is fine. Remember the goal is to acquaint students with the use of the software and its tools.

Finally, this test administration will provide a data point for your child’s mastery of the grade-level standards. The test data will not be used for identification or promotion/retention purposes.

Thank you in advance for your support by helping your child get a good night’s sleep and a good meal before testing each day. For any questions concerning testing, please contact Arlethea Williams at awilliams@csdecatur.net.
