Central School Expo Highlights

Expo 2015!
Last night was a wonderful celebration of student work at Central School's annual Expo. It was fun to see the students proudly showing their work in the hallways and in the classrooms. Here are examples of some of the projects that were created by our kindergarten, first, and second graders in art class. Enjoy!
Kindergarten Garden
Kindergarteners created beautiful watercolor flowers in an Impressionistic style.
The Land of Many Colors
Kindergarteners read a story about friendship and Equality called The Land of Many Colors. They created these happy, colorful little people who have love in their hearts for each other.
Pinch Pots
These pinch pots were made by the kindergarten, and glazed in a variety of colors!
First Grade Butterflies
First graders used charcoal and tempera paint to create these beautiful symmetrical butterflies.
Color Wheel Collage
Using their artist's eyes, first graders found primary and secondary colors in the pages of discarded magazines to make color wheel collages.
Creative Creatures
In art class, first graders celebrated Read Across America Day by creating these wonderful creatures, inspired by Dr. Seuss' If I Ran the Zoo.
Cold Hands, Warm Heart
Second graders used cool colors to paint their traced hands, and warm colors to paint hearts in these colorful collages.
Tar Beach
Artist and author Faith Ringgold's Tar Beach story quilt and book by the same name were the inspiration for these second grade projects. In the story, a little girl named Cassie imagines that she can fly, and whatever she flies over becomes hers. Students imagined what they would fly over if they could fly like Cassie, and displayed their drawings and writing with a colorful cloth square border to resemble a story quilt.
Clay Owls
Second graders enhanced their classroom study of clay owls by making these sweet owls in art class.
