January was a busy month at the Beachmont!
We can't believe the year is almost halfway over. Time flies when you are having fun! It is great to see the continued academic and social-emotional growth in all of our students.
On January 17th, students participated in the monthly "Buzz Day." This month the theme was "Beachmont Superbowl." Students were able to participate in an obstacle course set up by Mr. Norton, sing Karaoke, and/or design a new Lombardi Trophy! Students had a great time!
We also started After School Bookworms. This will take place 2x per month in our library from 2:50-3:30pm. This is an opportunity for students and families to do some quiet literacy-based activities in our library space. Our February dates will be February 7th and 28th.
On Thursday, January 25th, we had a great turn out to our parent coffee. Prior to the coffee, 1st Grade families attended a "work share." This was a great way for our 1st grade families to see all of the hard work that our students are putting in! We are looking into more opportunities for families of different grades to see the class in action.
In the coming weeks/months ahead, there will be a variety of different community activities/events. This will include grade-level field trips, Culture Night, College and Career Day, Art Show, and Spring Concert. As dates are confirmed, we will make sure to send this information out to families via Class Dojo.
It's a great day to be a bee!

Portland, OR – Sixty-five U.S. schools have been named 2023 National ESEA Distinguished Schools for the extraordinary success of their students.
The National Association of ESEA State Program Administrators (NAESPA)—formerly the National Title I Association—has been selecting examples of superior, federally-funded schools for national recognition through the National ESEA Distinguished Schools program since 1996. We celebrate the efforts of schools across the country making significant improvements. The program has annually acknowledged the success of hundreds of schools in one of three categories:
- Category 1: Exceptional student performance and academic growth
- Category 2: Closing the achievement gap between student groups
- Category 3: Excellence in serving special populations of students (e.g. homeless, migrant, English learners, etc.)
NAESPA implemented the National ESEA Distinguished Schools Program to highlight selected schools that have effectively used their ESEA federal funds to improve education outcomes for students. More information about all National ESEA Distinguished Schools is available on the NAESPA website: www.ESEAnetwork.org/ds
