Annual Jagtastic Silent Auction

The Jagtastic Silent Auction will go live on Saturday, December 10, 2022. Items and donations will be collected between Monday, October 31, and Monday, November 28.

Please remember that this fundraiser is part of the funding we need to pay for Grand Nationals! Basically, we really need to pay ourselves back and your participation is key!

Your PSL will be in touch soon. They will need to have all donations collected by November 28th, so that they know what I need to fill in and to give enough time to put the basket together.

You can contact your PSL and they will meet you to pick up your donation, or you can send it with your student to the JHS band hall labeled with Student name, (Enter Section) basket, ATTN: (Enter Your Name) and they will pick it up there.

You can also Venmo your PSL and they can purchase items for you. They will provide you with that information when they reach out. Make sure you put that it’s for the band auction!

Can you say WHIRLWIND!! That is exactly what the past 5 days have been for our Jaguar Band: a whirlwind of activity, emotions and memories being made. The trip started with an epic send-off to beat all send-offs. As the Jaguar Band walked out of Johnson HS they were met with an excited mass of teachers, students and administrators cheering them on as they boarded the buses. Joining the masses outside the doors were our campus Principal, Mr. Miksch, and our district Superintendent, Dr. Wright. The mass of people also wrapped around the bus lane and was crowded with people including our JHS Rosettes, JHS Cheer and the JHS Football teams with Coach Hoffman leading the way. There were signs, streamers and flags everywhere. Next, as we finished the bus loop we turned into Carpenter Hill Elementary School where the Principal, Mrs. Bordeaux, had the littles out there cheering us on. They were super cute holding signs and jumping up and down and waving to us. Spotted in the crowd were the children of Mr. Lunsford and Mr. Malik, as well as many younger siblings of our Jaguar Band members. The buses pulled out on 967 and immediately detoured into Dahlstrom MS where we were once again greeted but a huge gathering of students! The very first group we saw were the Mustang Band members waving and cheering along side our DMS Band Staff. As we traveled through the DMS bus loop we saw an incredible show of support from Campus Principal, Mrs. Ginn, and the entire DMS student body!

Next stop Indianapolis! Well, there were a couple of stops to stretch, eat, potty breaks and driver changes, but 17 hours later we made it to the Indianapolis Convention Center where we immediately unloaded the buses and had a 2 hour rehearsal. I said this was a whirlwind trip! Our students averaged about 5 hours of sleep each night but were troopers and gave it their all in every rehearsal, warm-up and performance we had, despite being sleep deprived. Oh, and did I mention the EPIC BLIZZARD of 2022 that rolled unexpectedly into the city of Indianapolis just moments before we took the field in competition. OK, it wasn’t actually a blizzard, but you would have thought it was by the excitement of the students when the giant roll up door lifted out of the way so we could walk to the Lucas Oil Stadium and the students were met with the ground covered by the snow falling from the sky. The walk to the stadium was cold and windy but, with about 4 inches of snow falling from the sky, everyone made it to the stadium entry hyped up on adrenaline and excitement.

I have not mentioned the performances yet! The Jaguar Band gave two incredible performances of our show and were the buzz of the crowd. So many parents and students loved our show and could not believe that we are only in our fourth year of existence. The spectators and performers at BOA Grand Nationals now know the Moe & Gene Johnson HS Marching Band. We started this journey in 2019 and set performing at BOA Grand Nationals as a goal we wanted to achieve. We also wanted to make the top 32 and advance on from Prelims to Semifinals. Both of those goals were accomplished and more. Our Jaguar Band place 12th out of over one-hundred bands in prelims and dropped slightly to 15th out of thirty-four bands in Semifinals. What an accomplishment and history making event! To be able to say that our band not only attended BOA Grand Nationals but also advanced to Semifinals and placed 15th is an accomplishment that thousands of band students across the country will never get to say or experience. We are so proud of what they have accomplished in such a short amount of time and the future is incredibly bright for this program due to the foundations that have been put in place by these students. To say we are proud of them is an understatement. We are humbled, inspired and honored to be a part of the history that our Johnson Jaguar Band has made and will continue to make in the future. Now, lets get back to work and continue to strive for even bigger and better!

As always, it's great to be home and it's a great day to be a Johnson Jaguar!

Color Guard Updates...now time for Winter Guard!

Winter Guard practices will start the week after Thanksgiving.

Here is the current schedule of practices and competitions. Please make sure to make arrangements in advance. We will add these dates to the band calendar very soon!

For Winter Guard, Color Guard is separated into Varsity and JV based on ability and skill. As is the case during marching band season, attendance at practices and competitions is mandatory. We will be hosting a Winter Guard Parent and Student meeting soon during which we will present how winter guard works, winter guard fee ($200), student and parent expectations, and answer any questions you may have!

Service Hours

The JHS Band Boosters have created a form for band students to track their band volunteer service hours. (Click the previous sentence to link to the form.) This form is similar to what is used by other organizations such as the NHS and puts control of volunteer service hours tracking in the students hands. Students should print and use this to log for all band related volunteer service hours and ensure completion of all fields including supervisor signature. Parents signatures are not accepted. Follow all details on the form to turn in the logs in the spring to be considered for Band Student Service Awards at the Band Banquet or for logging volunteer service for Letterman Jacket points. Any questions, contact banquet@johnsonbands.com or secretary@johnsonbands.com. This form should be used for all hours since the Band Banquet last spring. Multiple forms may be submitted to track all of your volunteer service.
