A NEW PRINCIPAL AT READING FOR THE 2022-23 SCHOOL YEAR

I learned from my school director last week that I will be transferred to Cook Elementary in Syracuse for the upcoming school year. This wasn't a change I expected or requested, and I am sad to leave Reading where we have such a wonderful staff and the best families I've ever worked with. When I took over for Ms. Weight I still remember her telling me, "Reading is the best kept secret in Davis District. You are LUCKY to be here." That sentiment has been proven true over and over again during my six year tenure.

We have a few more months together and I want to finish the school year strong. Your new principal will be Mr. Roger King, currently at Cook Elementary. The two of us will be swapping schools, which should make the transition easier. He is a working on an introduction/bio and I will send that (hopefully) with the next newsletter.

Additional Early Out Days for Spring 2022

The Board of Education has approved three additional early-out days for all schools in the current (2021-22) school year. All Davis School District schools will observe a two-hour early out on:

  • · March 21
  • · March 28
  • · April 18

On these days, school will dismiss two hours prior to the regular dismissal time. Elementary schools (including Kindergarten) will follow the existing early-out schedule used on Fridays. All bus routes will run two hours earlier on those days. After-school programs will continue at schools offering the programs where on those dates. During the early-release time teachers will be able to prepare to meet the specific needs of their students and classrooms. The time will not be used for meetings, professional development or collaboration groups. We recognize the pressures teachers, parents, and students have experienced with absences and other interruptions in recent months. We know we do our best work when students and teachers are in classrooms together, and these temporary adjustments do not reflect a change in the district’s priorities or focus on such efforts. They simply serve as a temporary means of meeting a few urgent needs of our students and staff. Existing early-out Fridays in elementary schools and late-start Wednesday in secondary schools will continue as previously planned.
