PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
This week the students took the iReady Assessment. This assessment will give us valuable data so we can understand the students strengths and design appropriate lessons. We want our students to understand the concept of "growth" and how important it is to set goals to grow academically during the school year.
We were able to have our 7th grade Open House last week. It was so good to have parents in the building. Our 6th and 8th grade Open Houses will be next week. The details are listed below.
Don't forget our teachers post assignments on the Week-at a Glance on the Bumpus website. In addition, the Google Classroom codes are listed. This is a great way to stay up-to-date on what is going on in each class.
We opened the student Powerschool Portal last week. The students can see all assignments and grades. If the student has a .01 listed as a grade then this means the assignment has not been done, AND the assignment can still be turned in to the teacher.
BUMPUS OPEN HOUSE
We were able to host our 7th grade Open House this week. We will have our 6th and 8th open house next week on In an effort to safely host Open House, we will do things a little different than in the past. The team teachers will address the parents, and there will be time to tour the building.
In addition, there will be meetings for Band, Choir and 8th grade Spanish I. In order to have all of the classrooms clean for the following school day, we will not be able to have the individual core classrooms and all of the elective classrooms open during Open House.
A few important notes and kind requests from Bumpus:
• In order to allow for adequate physical spacing in the team sessions listed below, we respectfully request that only one parent / guardian attend and also that Bumpus students do not attend.
• Per the Hoover Board of Education, facial coverings are required for all guests while indoors. • For your student’s open house night, we will only focus on the opportunity to meet the academic teachers and teams plus Band & Choir.
• Information about Bumpus PE and Electives is available on the Bumpus website. Check out each class on the individual Week at a Glance sections.
EXAMPLES:
If you have a 6-3 child who does band, you come from 6:40–7:10 for the band meeting & 7:15-7:50 for 6-3 meeting.
If you have a 8-1 child who does not do choir or band you come from 6:00-6:35 & then tour the school if you want.
If you have a 8-4 child who does choir, you come from 6:40 – 7:10 for the choir meeting & 7:15-7:50 for the 8-4 meeting.
You will on be in the building for a little over an hour at the most. See the schedule below.

NEWS FROM MRS. SCHMITH, SCHOOL NURSE
If your child has ANY symptoms of illness, please keep him/her at home until you can determine the cause of the symptoms. If your child has symptoms and they have been tested for COVID-19, they must remain home until the COVID-19 test results are reported to you. Per the ADPH Back to School Guidance, if your child has symptoms and has a negative covid test result, the child should stay home for 10 days UNLESS a healthcare provider issues an alternate diagnosis. We don't need to know the specific diagnosis but we need to know there is a diagnosis other than COVID-19 to explain the symptoms. When students report to school with symptoms of illness and subsequently test positive for COVID-19, they have exposed countless others, creating multiple close contact individuals and additional COVID positive cases. Please refer to the ADPH Back to School Guidance pages numbered 13 and 15, or your personal Healthcare Professional if you have questions. https://www.alabamapublichealth.gov/covid19/assets/cov-school-guidance-073021.pdf

NEWS FROM OUR COUNSELORS!
Dear Parents/Guardians,
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Suicide Prevention Week is September 5 to September 11, 2021.
Suicide is the second leading cause of death for young people ages 10 – 24. It is also one of the leading causes of PREVENTABLE death. We lose approximately 130 young people nationwide in this age group to suicide each week. FOUR out of FIVE teens who attempt suicide have given clear warning signs. That means in 80% of these cases we have an opportunity to intervene and possibly save a young person who is at-risk.
BE THE ONE! #BeThe1To
#BeThe1To is the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline’s message for National Suicide Prevention Month and beyond, which helps spread the word about actions we can all take to prevent suicide. The Lifeline network and its partners are working to change the conversation from suicide to suicide prevention, to actions that can promote healing, help and give hope.
If you are immediately concerned about your child or a friend, text Crisis Text Line at 741741 or call the Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). These services are free, confidential and available 24/7.
