Newsletter Term 3 Week 8
Patumahoe School 14th of September 2022
Principal's Desk
Kia ora parents, caregivers, and extended whanau
If you were lucky enough to be at last Friday's school assembly you would have seen Room 12 and 7's interpretive movement role play. Using their bodies they acted out- in total silence- the natural evolution of the flora and fauna of Henry's Reserve. Lucy Hall and Ruby Cooksley took on the role of narrators. It was fascinating and definitely one of the most memorable assembly performances I have witnessed.
The passing of Queen Elizabeth II was marked by a special morning assembly last Friday in which we lowered the flag to half mast. We spoke about how well the Queen conducted herself over many years and we related this back to our own behaviour (conduct) at school. Being on your best behaviour is something you have to work at and it is not always easy.
New long-term strategy for COVID-19
You’ll be aware that New Zealand will move to a new, long-term approach to COVID-19. These changes have been made based on public health advice and reflect high levels of immunity and declining case numbers across New Zealand. Key changes are as follows:
- Mask wearing is no longer required
- Household contacts of a person with COVID-19 do not need to isolate, but instead are asked to complete a RAT test each day, for five days.Which means, ākonga (learners) who are household contacts but test negative and do not have COVID-19 symptoms, should continue to attend.
One-off public holiday
There will be a one-off public holiday on September 26 to mark the passing of the Queen. So there will be NO school on this day.
