LCMS Weekly Newsletter

YOUR ATTITUDE DETERMINES YOUR DIRECTION
Parents,
Please begin to monitor your students grades as we only have three weeks left in this third nine week grading period. It is important that your child comes in for morning tutorials with their teachers in the classes they are struggling in. Teachers are available at 7:55am each morning.
6th grade Sexual Education Program - Choices 360 Program
6TH GRADERS WITH HEALTH ON THEIR SCHEDULE! PLEASE READ!
Dear 6th grade Parents,
This year, we will use a new abstinence-plus sexual education program entitled “Choices 360” (Empowering YOU to make YOUR choices). This program will teach your child about sexual development, abstinence, and making healthy decisions. The Choices 360 program meets the requirements of the Texas Health Education (TEKS) and has been reviewed and approved by the LCISD School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC).
The directors of the Choices 360 program are Bobbie Kite, BSN, RNC-OB and Megan Gscheidle from Parkridge Clinic.
A parent education night has been scheduled for Tuesday, February 19 at 6:00 PM in the Lubbock-Cooper Middle School Cafetorium. During this event, we will present the curriculum to the parents, provide resources and talking points to continue the conversation at home, and open the floor for a question and answer session. Your child is scheduled to receive the required Sexual Education curriculum during the first week of March in their health or technology class. If you choose to opt out of this curriculum, your child will be given an alternate assignment in a different location.
If you have questions, please feel free to contact me.
Please consider helping our STUDENTS!

Eighth Grade Banquet Information
The 8th grade banquet is just around the corner and will be here before you know it. One of the highlights every year for the 8th graders is the banquet slideshow. In order to make this a success, we need your help! Please email a picture of your child when he/she was a baby and a current picture of your child to lcmsclassof2023@gmail.com. Please include your child's name in the subject line. We have 203 8th graders and we want to make sure to get everyone's pictures so that no child is left out. If you have any other fun pictures of your child from school activities, you are more than welcome to submit those as well. Thank you so much for your help in this! Please feel free to email if you have any questions or concerns. The deadline is April 12.

Banquet will be Friday, April 26 @ Bella Via Venue
*** There is a dress code in place, so please make sure you are wearing Sunday best or cocktail attire. No PROM dresses allowed, as this is an eighth grade banquet and we want to keep the attire age-appropriate. If you have questions, please have your student show me a picture of their outfit and I will approve. Thanks for your understanding.
Semester Final Exemption Criteria
Due to STAAR testing being so late in the semester, we will implement exemptions for the second semester.
In order to exempt a final, a student must have at least an 80 average for the semester and meet the following attendance requirements:
No more than three tardies in any one period (If the class is double-blocked, students cannot have five or more tardies for any one period to be eligible for an exemption)
No more than three absences in any one period of the class the student wants to exempt (If the class is double-blocked, students cannot have five or more absences for any one period to be eligible for an exemption)
Perfect attendance exemptions can be used for a class with a 70 average or above, as long as the student has met attendance requirements
Through unit assessment data, students must show progress through the spring semester
Library and Cafeteria fines need to be reconciled before exemptions can be signed for academics
