5th Grade Celebration Parade!!

We know this school year has been quite unexpected and is ending never in the way we would have intended. But we can't let the kiddos leave Smith without some kind of celebration! Originally we would have a 5th Grade Walk where the entire school comes out and applauds all of the 5th graders as they walk the halls of Smith one last time. Due to circumstances out of our control we would like to instead have a drive-by parade to celebrate our 5th graders. On Friday, May 29, at 9:00 am the parade will begin! Please decorate your cars and make posters. All the teachers will be there to wave one last goodbye and wish all the 5th graders well as they move onto middle school. Below are some district guidelines that you will need to abide by during the parade. Also linked is the parade route that you will follow. We can't wait to see everyone!!

  • Must follow traffic pattern that was shared. Please do NOT stop as we need to keep the traffic flow.

  • Remain in your vehicles at all times.

  • Be mindful of honking (think pompoms, etc.)

  • Please don’t throw any items out to the teachers as there will be no exchange of materials.

  • Please wait for Mrs. Young to start the parade.

Student Material Exchange Information

This past Monday you all received an email with information regarding picking up your child's materials and dropping off any items belonging to school that may be at home with your child. Below is a link to that letter. Please carefully read through all the information. Also linked is a Traffic Flow Map and Procedures during the exchange. If you have any questions regarding the information please do not hesitate to email your child's teacher for clarification.

Annual Student Returning Information

The annual returning student registration snapcode notifications will begin May 18-28 for students enrolled prior to April 17. The primary student contact will receive a unique snapcode via email to complete the registration process online for each student. Parents of students who enroll for the 2019-20 school year after April 17 can expect to receive their invitation emails June 15-23.

Proof of residency information will also be collected electronically for all campuses this year via a separate online form. The link to upload the yearly proof of residency will be available May 12.

Important Dates:

  • May 12-19: Infosnap roll-out of snapcodes for returning students will be emailed to parents.
  • May 22 & 25: No eLearning --> Bad Weather Day/Memorial Day
  • May 26, 27: Student Material Exchange Days
  • May 28: Last Day of School!!!
  • May 29: 5th Grade Farewell Parade @9:00 AM

Missing Assignment Notice Sent only on Sundays

We understand that some parents are currently still working during this time and are unable to work with their children during regular school hours. Since the due dates are Sunday at midnight we have decided to send out Missing Assignment notices only on Sunday. Hopefully this will help lessen the amount of emails from us.

Important Message from 5th Grade Teachers

Parents please make sure your child is going back into SeeSaw, Google Classroom, or STEMscopes each day even if there is not an assignment to check for feedback from their teacher. This will help reduce the number of emails you all are receiving from us if your child needs to go back and redo an assignment. Thank you for all that you are doing at home. You guys are Rockstars! Remember to email your homeroom or switch teacher with any concerns or take advantage of Open Zoom times teachers have set up to help assist with classwork.

Lesson Plans and Assignments

As a reminder, all assignments are due on Sundays at midnight.

Next week's lesson plans will be available Monday at 8:30 a.m.

Lesson plans will be available in multiple locations. We will send them via email (a S'more), post them on our Google Classroom so students can see them, and post them on the Smith website.

eLearning Reminder

This is a friendly reminder to please encourage your child to showcase his or her own learning through our various eLearning platforms. We want to see students' understanding of the contents we are sharing. Given that providing relevant feedback to our students is one of the most effective ways to support students in making growth, it's important for us to see their authentic work and hear their own thoughts when they share their understanding of concepts. Please do not feel pressured to correct misspellings, edit/revise responses, etc. The information we receive from your child will support us in determining our next steps in providing helpful feedback and instruction.

Accessing various resources, tools, and websites

We want to make sure everyone knows how to log into the various platforms and websites we will be using. Although your children should be familiar with this, we wanted to make sure you have the information as well.

Some of the most common sites we anticipate using and their logins are listed below, as well as a link to a document with additional resources you can access at home.


  • A separate email will follow with your child's NEW individual login codes. This is the ONLY login that will be different for them during this time. Your student needs to make sure to use NEW login we provide instead of the one they are used to.

  • Families can join for free for 30 days.

How Teachers Will be Facilitating This Process

Teachers will be available from 9 am to 11 am and 1 pm to 3 pm via email. We will also be providing timely feedback to students in order to support understanding of content. Since this is new for all of us, we will be monitoring and adjusting the lessons if needed. Please let us know if you run into any difficulties with this process so that we can fix it.


We are excited about this new adventure but know it will not come without its challenges. We look forward to working through this learning experience together with you and your child.
