California's History

California was settled by Spanish missionaries in the 1700's. California didn't become U.S. territory until 1847. California was giving to the U.S. as part of the treaty ending the Mexican- American war.

California's flag is a picture of a California grizzly bear walking toward the left. The star copied the lone star of Texas. This flag was first used as a revolt against Mexican rule.
