A Message from Our Principal: Josh Young
Thank you to everyone for an amazing start to the 2017-18 year. Test results have been released over the last several weeks for DWD. As we work hard for great results in all areas, I want to take the time to celebrate the wonderful academic accomplishments that our students were responsible for last year.
- AP Testing – 339 students took 706 AP exams with 72% receiving scores that were passing and earning college credits for the courses
- SAT – DHS had an average composite score of 1148 which placed us in the top 3 amongst traditional public high schools in the state of SC
- ACT – DHS had a 20.5 composite score
- WorkKeys – 94.2% of our Juniors received a Work Readiness Certificate based on their scores
These are all fantastic accomplishments that are only possible through the efforts of an entire school community. Congratulations and thanks for a great job! One Daniel!

Attendance Information
Attendance Calls and Emails
Daniel High School observes a block schedule for its daily classes. Most students will have four blocks and a homeroom. The attendance system is set up on an eight period schedule.
When a student is absent from a class you will get a call at home indicating that they have missed a certain period not block. For example, if you get a call indicating your student missed 3rd & 4th periods for a certain day, that means they missed their second block class. See the chart below to determine what block each period represents.
Please remember if a student has study hall, they must attend unless they have completed paperwork and have been approved by administration to change it to late arrival or early dismissal.
Remember that notes must be turned in within 3 days in order to be considered excused. Per state law, after 10 days only doctor's notes can be accepted as lawful excuses for absences.
Thank you, parents and guardians, for promptly submitting notes and excuses for student absences upon their return to school. Please note that our attendance clerk is only here part-time, so some notes may take more than one day to be entered and properly coded. We appreciate your patience and support as we all work together to make sure that each student’s attendance record is properly maintained.
A Message from the Daniel Academic Foundation
We are very excited to again operate our DandeLION Shop at Daniel High School! Through the DandeLION shop, our nurse and guidance counselors help students in need by providing basic items like food, clothing, toiletries, and school supplies. Students can shop any time during the school day and it is completely confidential. Thank you to the many people in our community who have previously donated items, money, and time to ensure this needed service continues!
We are accepting donations and you can support the DandeLION shop by donating money, hygiene products, and non-perishable, healthy, food items (granola bars, jerky, etc). For now, we are not accepting clothing because we are blessed to have received more than we can store. If you have questions or would like to help, please contact Tina Maloney (tmmaloney@gmail.com) or Maggie Bandy (mbandy@charter.net).
We want all of our Daniel students to be able to be at their best! Thank you for supporting the DandeLION shop and Daniel High School!

YMCA Mentoring
We are excited to announce that the Y Mentor Pickens County program has expanded to Daniel High School.
Mentors provide extra support to help students achieve their potential by committing to spend 30 minutes each week with a student while they are at school. We believe everyone, regardless of age, benefits from having positive one-on-one relationships with others. Childhood is an especially important time, and mentoring is the perfect way to invest in the life of a student! Mentors are a positive influence and catalyst in helping shape the future of our community.
Our goal is to partner businesses, churches and civic organizations with elementary, middle and high schools in the area to provide a framework of support to help students achieve their potential and discover their strengths.
For anyone interested in mentoring, please register for a Mentoring 101 Training today! This class provides a detailed overview of the Y Mentor program and also serves as the required training for all prospective volunteers, if you choose to become a mentor. If you have already decided to mentor, go ahead and submit our online Mentor Application, and you will be one step closer. The success and impact of the Y Mentor Pickens County program is a community effort! For more information, please contact Mentor Director, Cindy Perry at cindyperry@pcymca.net or at (864) 307-0213.
