LCPS School Counseling News
July/August 2017
LCPS School Counseling Newsletter
We hope you had time to relax and rejuvenate this summer. It is hard to believe that we are embarking on the 2017-2018 school year. Before we begin another school year, let us take time to “Relate, Recharge, Reflect and Realize” the accomplishments of our previous school year. Please share one or two photos that can be shared in a slide show, to capture the accomplishments of your students, staff, and/or school community. Also, please share a photo from your summer and/or what you like to do to “recharge.” Please email the photos to ashaver@lcps.org by Friday, August 11, 2017.
We are looking forward to another remarkable year of supporting our students, families and school communities!
Welcome Dr. Tracy Jackson!

July 2017 Ramp Camp
The July RAMP Camp was a success! School Counselors from Briar Woods, Potomac Falls and Tuscarora High Schools, along with Arcola and Round Hill Elementary Schools, participated in the two day training. Based on the feedback from the participants, 100% of the participants found RAMP Camp beneficial.
One camper stated, "I really liked the practical examples and breaking the RAMP process down to a simple and understandable format. I also liked being able to collaborate and discuss with other schools to see what they are doing and seeing what works and what doesn't."
Ramp Camp will be back in June and July 2018. Stay tuned for more information.

The Virginia Department of Education has issued new requirements for initial and re-licensure requirements for school counselors.
Below is a link to the memo with links to the new requirements. Please be sure to review all the options to meet the new requirements. There are FREE online options. We will have links on VISION to access Option 3. The links will be available by August 21, 2017.
Professional Development Conference Requests
If you are interested in attending a conference please contact Office of School Counseling Services first. We will need to check availability of funds before you complete the Request to Attend Conference Form which is available on the Intranet. The link is below:
Once you complete the form, return it to our office. It would be helpful if you could ask your principal to pick up a portion of the cost. Generally we’ll pay registration (if budget allows) and your school can pay additional expenses.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
