Badland History
There is a lot of history in the Badlands. The badlands was once territory held by the Sioux Nation of Plains Indians. Therefore a lot of the badlands history has many Indians. One of the last "ghost dances" was witnessed in the badlands. The Lakota Indians believed this would scare away white men from there territory.
Climate
The badlands climate is variable and very unpredictable. With temperatures ranging from 116*F to -40*F. Summers are hot and dry with some occasional violent thunderstorms. Many unexpected Hailstorms and tornadoes sweep across the badlands. Winters are cold with 12 to 24 inches of snowfall. It gets 16 inches of precipitation which usually occurs during the warmer months.
Activities and events
The badlands is a fun place to visit with a lot of fun activities. The badlands has fun activities for all ages. Some of these activities include, becoming a junior ranger, hiking a trail, doing a fossil prep lab, and camping.
Association with Native Americans
The badlands was once territory held by the Sioux Nation of Plains Indians. The Native Americans have used this land for 1000 years to do their hunting.
