Humphrey's Adventures
Second grade writers have been reading a book called The World According to Humphrey by Betty Birney. Second graders are so excited to take their own class Humphrey home for weekend adventures. Students will write about their adventure with Humphrey in a class journal to share when Humphrey returns to school.
Recess Equipment Wish List
Each year, we hope to update and replenish our recess games and equipment. Please see Manavon's recess equipment wish list linked below.
Elections in Second Grade
Second graders used their weeks of learning about the election process to culminate in a class mascot vote for one of two pets!
Voters determined the characteristics of quality candidates, developed and created official registration cards, and voted in their polling place for the candidate they felt best suited for the role.
Walking on Sunshine
Super-Spellers
Second graders are taking their spelling skills to the next level! Students collaborated at vertical whiteboards to notice and apply spelling rules and patterns.
Girls Running Club
We are so excited to once again offer the Manavon Girls Running Club to 4th and 5th graders! This club is offered at no cost to the student. New members will receive a free T-shirt. We will have a weekly lesson and workout. Each member will get a healthy snack (go Bananas!) during our weekly lesson and then we will warm up and run. Sessions are held rain or shine. Our season will conclude with a final 5K!
Club this year will be held November 16th- January 18th on Thursdays from 3:30-5pm (We will not meet on 11/23 due to Thanksgiving and 12/28 due to Winter Break). Please complete this form by November 10th if you're interested. Volunteers for Fall Parties
Thank you for volunteering for your child’s classroom party. If you are taking your child/children home from Manavon after the party, please log into PickUp Patrol and enter it as an early dismissal. That way we can account for your child leaving the building. We encourage you to only take home Manavon students as PAELC students are on a regular school schedule. If you must take your child home from PAELC you need to enter that student in PickUp Patrol in the dismissal plan change in advance.

Birthday/Holiday Treats
Due to the many students with allergies and food reactions food items to celebrate student birthdays are not permitted. We are requesting that all birthday recognitions be non-food based. We do want to acknowledge student birthdays but encourage families to do so in other ways. For example, small items such as pencils or stickers for classmates or the donation of a book to the school or classroom library in honor of a child’s birthday would be appropriate. Thank you for honoring and respecting this request.
Holiday celebrations will be held in compliance with School Board Policy #246 Student Wellness. The policy states “The district recognizes that classroom parties and celebrations are a tradition at school. School staff and parents/guardians are encouraged to include healthy food offerings, as defined in this policy, at school parties and events to support a healthy environment throughout the district.” Policy 246 can be viewed in its entirety by visiting the district’s website.
Holiday celebrations and end-of-year classroom celebrations will be announced in advance for parents to be prepared in determining food choices with their children. Birthday celebrations are held randomly and do not allow for parent awareness prior to the event in the school setting, which contributed to the decision for birthday recognitions to be non-food based.
