Howard Gardner
Howard Gardner went to Harvard but was inspired by Jean Piaget to study developmental psychology. He worked with different types of children. After his work he developed a theory that people have different ways of learning. He came up with 8 different types including visual-spatial, linguistic-verbal, mathematical, kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, interpersonal, naturalistic. He thought there could be a possible 9th type called "existential".
Psychological Difference.
He opened new doors for further research about different ways of thinking of human intelligence. He also wrote a book called "Frames of Mind" in 1983. This book focuses on the fact that we neglect intelligences by standard testing methods. Along with "Frames of Mind" he's also wrote "Multiple Intelligences", "The App Generation", "Creating Minds" and the "Unschooled Mind".
Effect on the Average Person
He changed education greatly. Teachers now realize that there are multiple intelligences. Teachers were now able to make learning easier.
How the Time Period Affected Him
Before him there was not much understanding about intelligence. Psychologists believed there was only one way to learn. He changed that.
