Dear Parents and Community of Cooper Mountain,
I hope this letter finds you and your family well. Some of the most frequently asked questions from the past week are answered below. If you do not find answers here, you may want to go to the District website here.
Much of this information I just learned today, so I am trying to keep you as up to date as possible.
Cooper Mountain Elementary
Return to School & CDL Information
The District is still in contract negotiations with BEA to hash out the details of a teacher’s day. This is an idea of plans being made but know that nothing is set in stone or approved.
Each day will begin with a connection time with students at 8:30. This is a time to connect with students, share about the day, and support the emotional and social well-being of students. Learning will happen between the hours of 8:30-11:00 and 12:00-2:30. All staff and students will have lunch between 11-12. Literacy, Writing, Math will have lessons pushed out by the District, lessons taught by the teacher, and small group instruction. About half the time will be applied learning which is a time where students are completing what is traditionally called “assignments” or independent reading/math/writing time. Every day the students will get 30 minutes of PE or 30 minutes of music on M/T and Th/F. Counselor and Student Success Coach lessons will be given to students on Wednesdays.

As a District, we are putting together a set of presentations on topics to assist families with Comprehensive Distance Learning. I anticipate these will be scheduled during the first two weeks of September. More details to come.
iPad Distribution Information for K-2
iPad distribution for Cooper Mountain is on Thursday, September 3rd.
Important information to note prior to device pickup:
We have enough devices for all K-2 students so you do not need to rush at the beginning of the time window.
If you signed out a chromebook in the spring, please bring the device and charger to the IPAD Distribution.
Please ensure you know your student's ID before you come to the deployment. This will greatly speed up the process.
Please fill out this card Device Checkout Info Card.pdf prior to coming to speed up the process and help us maintain social distancing.
The plan for iPad deployment is as follows**Note the times are set up in this manner as we are not allowed to have more than 50 people gathered outside at one time. Thank you for helping us follow this guidance.:
Kindergarten: Thursday, September 3rd from 12:30 to 1:15pm
First Grade: Thursday, September 3rd from 1:15-2:00pm
Second Grade: Thursday, September 3rd from 2:00-2:45pm
Please drive in to the main lot and follow down to the lower lot
We will have staff directing you where to go
You will remain in your car for the entire process
If you have a Chromebook to return, please bring it with you.
If you have library books to return, please bring those with you as well.
If you cannot make the above times, alternative times/arrangements will be made at a later time.
Conferences during CDL
Another change this year will be that there will be no Fall or Spring Conferences. That said, teachers will have time built into their schedules daily to make family connections. We are hopeful that more consistent connection time will suffice in taking the place of conferences.
SpEd and ELL Services
You may have seen that ODE guidance that came out on August 11, 2020 stating that some SpEd and ELL services would be held in person, as long as it is safe. Beaverton will not be following this guidance at this time, as we cannot provide the services listed in a manner that is safe for staff and students.
What if I need help getting school supplies?
Beaverton School District has put together Student Success Kits for families who might need help with school supplies this year. If you would like a Student Success Kit for your child(ren), please contact Cassie Klein at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Repeat Information: Technology/Library Books
All Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students will be able to pick up an iPad for at home learning prior to the start of the year. We will announce pick-up times as we get closer to the start of the school year. If you borrowed a Chromebook in the spring, you will be able to return it when you pick up the iPad.
Chromebooks will be available for all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students who do not yet have a working device at home. As the priority for the start of the year is for all students to have a working device, if you who borrowed one in the spring, you can continue using it this fall.
If a previously-issued Chromebook is not working properly, there will be instructions to request a replacement when we share more when we announce pickup directions and schedules as we get closer to the start of the school year.
Library Books can be returned when you are picking up devices as well.
