Note from the Principal
As we end the month of February, we look forward to springing ahead to bright and sunny days in March! We are so proud of our students and the focused, hard work they have continued to display in their classrooms throughout this challenging year.
During this time of the year, we see tremendous academic growth in our students as they build upon their foundational knowledge, and teachers challenge students with new concepts. We also begin state testing season so continued hard work and dedication are required. This is a critical time for students to stay focused and persist with their studies.
Remember:
- Be responsible for deadlines and assignments
- Be engaged and focused during class time
- Be ready to learn every day
I thank you for your continued support of our Hairgrove family.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lee
From the School Attendance Office:
Please remember that whenever your child is absent, we must have a note from you explaining why the absence occurred. All notes must include the child’s first and last name, the date of the absence, the reason for the absence, and your signature. If you have a doctor’s excuse, please attach it the note. Please feel free to use the attached form and make copies for future use. Thank you.

Art News
March is National Youth Art Month!
Let’s celebrate and nurture our students’ artistic curiosities and creativity by having them draw, paint and create things out of found objects. With Spring Break right around the corner, you can take a family trip to any of the amazing museums Houston has to offer. The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Contemporary Arts Museum, The Orange Show Monument and Smither Park are just a few. Have fun exploring and celebrating Youth Art Month!
P.E News
A Note from the Gym:
This month is Black History month, and students have been learning about some of the greatest African American athletes of all time. A few of the champions we highlighted are Muhammed Ali(Boxer), Kobe Bryant(Basketball), Serena Williams(Tennis), Tiger Woods(Golf), Misty Copeland(Ballet), and Jackie Robinson(Baseball). Students have also been playing question and answer games to remember what they learned. Also, fitness testing is underway, and the 3rd , 4th, and 5th grade are taking the Fitnessgram Assessment (State testing) to make sure that our students are in the healthy fitness zone according to Fitnessgram standards. Final reports may be shared in your student’s final report card of the year. Everyone is doing great so far! Ask your student to show and practice with you the SHOULDER STRETCH, TRUNK LIFT, PUSH UPS, AND CURL UPS. Let’s ALL get in the fitness zone!

Car Rider Corner
If you pick your child up in via the car rider line in the afternoon, please be sure to have your car rider number hanging from the rear view mirror before you enter the parking lot and leave it hanging until your child is safely inside of the vehicle. The staff members who are sending the numbers inside need to be able to see the number easily to expedite the process of having your child brought outside to you as quickly as possible and the staff members putting your child inside of the vehicle need to match the number hanging from the rear view mirror with the number on the child’s daily transportation card. If your car rider number is damaged and you need a new one, please stop by the front desk at your earliest convenience to pick up a new one.
We are asking our car rider parents to please be aware of both our students and staff during car rider dismissal. To help with the traffic flow, we use a staff member to direct traffic between the two lanes. Please be aware of the staff member and observe and follow the traffic directions that are being given. Please be sure that your foot remains on the break as your child enters the car and aware of other students and staff in the area. There have been several instances where the driver has been looking back at the child instead of in the direction that they are driving. This puts both staff and students in danger. We do not want any students or staff members to be hurt.
As a final reminder:
- It is illegal to be on a cell phone in a school zone. The parking lot of a school is still part of a school zone.
- Students are taken to the front office at 3:50 pm
- Please park and bring your ID and Car Rider Tag to the front office.
- Students are not allowed to be dropped off on the side of the building.
Thank you for your compliance in helping the afternoon car rider line to run safely and efficiently.
Notes from Nurse Haley: March is National Nutrition Month
National Nutrition Month is an annual campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. During the month of March, everyone is invited to focus on the importance of making informed food choices, developing sound eating and physical activity habits that can be put to use throughout the rest of the year.
Eating healthy does not mean your diet needs to be restrictive or overwhelming.
A healthy eating plan is one that:
- Emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat or fat-free milk products.
- Includes lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts.
- Is low in saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, sodium/salt, and added sugars.
- Stays within your calorie needs.
For more information and articles visit the eat right website at https://www.eatright.org/food/resources/national-nutrition-month
Friendly Reminders:
Vision and Hearing screenings were done at Hairgrove during the month of November. Referrals were sent with students who failed any of their screenings. If your child received a referral, please get those returned to me as soon as possible. Vision can affect learning which is why it is very important that students who need glasses wear them while in school.
Students need to stay home for a fever of 100 and above. May return to school with doctor clearance or negative laboratory COVID-19 test result and fever free for 24 hours without a fever reducer.
Please continue to monitor your child for any COVID-19 symptoms. People can still test positive without fever. If any symptoms occur, please keep children home and contact me for any questions or concerns. Here is our LEAD safely link for reference. https://www.cfisd.net/domain/2305
If you would like to have your child wear a mask at school, please continue sending them with a mask and extra mask in their backpack.
Pre-K and Kindergarten student parents: Please continue sending an extra set of clean clothes in the student's backpack.
