Return to In-Person Hybrid Instruction - October 5th

The District is planning to welcome back our students as part of our Responsible Reopening: In-Person and Titans Virtual Learning Academy plan beginning October 5th.

Please read through this newsletter carefully. There is a great deal of information below to review as we shift to the Hybrid/TVLA Plan.

Grades 9-12 hybrid students will have an opportunity to attend an open house. More specific information will be communicated directly from Dr. Smithberger.

Grade 5 hybrid students open house. More specific information will be communicated directly from Mr. Discenza.

Big picture

While in a Hybrid Schedule, schools will split their student population into two groups, and each group will alternate their days learning in virtual classroom instruction at home or learning at school. On Fridays, both groups will learn at home. This model will allow for us to transition groups of students safely back into in-person instruction.

In this model, a regular class will be divided into two groups of students. Each group will follow either a Blue (A-L) or Orange (M-Z) schedule. A family household with different last names will attend on the same day.

Grades 5-12:

  • Blue schedule students will learn at school on Mondays and Wednesdays. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, they will engage in remote, synchronous and asynchronous learning.

  • Orange schedule students will learn at school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Mondays and Wednesdays, they will engage in remote, synchronous and asynchronous learning.

  • On remote learning days, students will still follow their daily schedule.

  • Fridays will allow time for students to seek help and continue learning instruction presented during the week.

Grades K-4:

  • Blue schedule students will learn at school on Mondays and Wednesdays. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, they will engage in remote, asynchronous learning.

  • Orange schedule students will learn at school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Mondays and Wednesdays, they will engage in remote, asynchronous learning.

  • Fridays will allow time for students to seek help and continue learning instruction presented during the week.

ATTENDANCE

If you can't login, then you will need to call in. Students are expected to login to their Blackboard accounts every day. If your child is not logging into Blackboard, they will be marked absent for the day they did not login. Just like in past practice, parents should call the attendance line at your child's school to report their child's absence should they be absent from their (Blackboard) classroom. If we do not receive a call, students will be marked as an unexcused absence and the school will contact the parents. Please contact the teacher for help if you are having technical difficulties logging in.

EXTENDED Before and After Care During Hybrid Learning

ExtendED will be offered before and after school Monday through Thursday. Doors will open at 6:30 a.m. and will close at 6:00 p.m. Registration forms are available for the hybrid plan and must be completed prior to the start of the program. Families must use 2 days per week and 4 weeks per month in order to maintain sufficient staffing at each site. If you've completed a 2020-2021 registration form previously, you do not need to complete another form; simply email your child/children's revised schedule to egalbincea@bereaschools.org. Once all information is received and processed (new registrations included), an invoice will be emailed to you, which will include your registration fee and your first month's tuition. A link will be provided should you wish to pay via credit (VISA, MasterCard, Discover, American Express) or you may send in or drop off a check. Cash payments will no longer be accepted.

TRANSPORTATION OPT-IN

In order to arrange the safest and most efficient bus routes, we need to identify eligible students who will need busing if/when the district returns to in-person hybrid learning. If you have not done so already, please complete the BCSD Transportation Opt-in Form.

If you need busing and do not complete this form, your student WILL NOT receive a bus route assignment. This form is due SEPTEMBER 23, 2020 in order for your student to be routed.

Students currently enrolled in TVLA who plan to return to in-person next semester/trimester DO NOT need to complete this form at this time.

Immunizations

Students enrolled in preschool through grade 12 must have written proof of immunizations currently required under Ohio law on file at their school. Ohio law requires schools to exclude students from attendance no later than 14 school days after admission if they are not properly immunized. Remember to update the clinic with any new immunizations received. Please send a copy of the updated record that includes month, day and year of immunization. For specific requirements please see Immunization Summary from the Ohio Department of Health. Your School Health Specialists can answer any questions regarding what you will need to fulfill your requirements for immunizations.

School Supplies

  • Preschool Supply List
  • Elementary Schools - K-4 Supply List
  • Middle School - 5-8 Supply List
  • High School - Due to the variety of schedules and courses among students, there is no universal supply list for the high school.
