OUSD Stringfest
The Oakland Symphony is inviting your child to participate in the OUSD Stringfest, which takes place on Tuesday, May 1 at Roosevelt Middle School.
There is a short rehearsal at 6 p.m. and the concert starts at 7 p.m. The MUSE Orchestra performs a short set at 7, then the OUSD group ending by 8 p.m. at the latest. This is a great event that my students have always enjoyed, and I want to encourage you to have your child participate.
All 4th and 5th grade students received a permission slip to join the concert, and if parents bring their students, a permission slip really isn't necessary.
Thank you,
Ms. Green (4th and 5th grade music teacher)

Pennies For Patients Fundraiser
Our annual Pennies for Patients penny drive to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is still in full swing!
Each classroom will have a box for collecting donations. Please bring in pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, half-dollars, dollar coins, and bills of all sizes…Last year, we donated over $900. Let’s get to $1,000 this year!! We’ll run the donation drive into mid-May.
A few Pennies for Patients facts:
- Thornhill is one of hundreds of schools across the nation participating in this donation program.
- Leukemia is a blood disease. It affects the body's production of healthy blood cells.
- Money raised will go towards cancer research, especially for children with leukemia and blood cancer.
- Approximately 17,692 children of all ages in the SF Bay Area are affected by different forms of blood cancer, including leukemia.
- We can help! Every cent counts! Only 7 cents a day can help a patient with his or her doctor visits.
Thank You!
