From the Media Center:
Bookapalooza
Our annual summer reading program for students in fourth and fifth graders will take place on Friday, August 30 from 8:30-9:00 Copies of the book report form are available on the website under Media Center information or your child may stop by the library during school. We're excited to celebrate reading with our staff and our students! Please email Beth Martinez at beth_martinez@gwinnett.k12.ga.us if you have any questions.
Reading Rewards
Today is the official start day of Reading Rewards! You will find an information sheet about Reading Rewards and some of the major changes for this year, along with your child's user name and password in the Friday folder. We made changes to Reading Rewards based on feedback from Fort Daniel families and staff, and hope the changes will make this program work even better for our school. The highlights include:
1. Students will log minutes from reading at home only.
2. Reading minutes for students in grades K and 1 will not need to be validated.
3. Goals are 2000 minutes for grades K-1 and 3000 minutes for grades 2-5.
4. Students will earn tokens for our treasure tower when they reach 10%, 20%, etc. of their goal.
5. Students may not log all their minutes for the week on one day (For example, they forgot to log on Monday-Thursday. Instead of logging 120 minutes on Friday, they need to change the date and log how many minutes they read for each day)
6. There will be no backdating - meaning everyone will start today, August 16. Please do not add any reading minutes from the summer or the first two weeks of school.
7. Students will earn a Fort Daniel readers hat when they reach their goal; families are invited to watch the recognition on the morning news show.
8. You do not need to create an account - we've already done it for all students. Your child's user name and password are on the information sheet in the Friday folder.
The information sheet has the website address and log in information, along with ways to contact us if you have any problems logging in. You will hear more information about Reading Rewards at Curriculum Night next week. Every class came for a Reading Rewards orientation this week, and the children seemed very excited to be able to "level up", earn badges, and to choose their own rewards using this online reading motivation program. Hopefully your child will be super excited to read and log minutes starting this weekend!
