HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy New Year Pleasant Lake Elementary Parents!

Regardless if your child is on the My Path, Our Path or the In Person Instruction educational path, we are all still a part of our special school community and we will get through these challenging times together.

The PLE Staff and I look forward to a great 2021! Last year brought many personal and professional challenges for everyone but I truly believe that we can make 2021 special for our children by remaining positive, assuming the best in people, exhibiting empathy for others, and focusing on what we can be thankful for.

It is our goal to keep in person instruction an educational option but continue to need your help to ensure, within our circle of control, that in person instruction can continue without interruptions. Our staff, children and parents did a great job prior to Winter Break following our safety protocols but it is important to not get complacent and to keep up the good work in keeping everyone safe and healthy in 2021.

This is the first time in our professional and personal lives that we've faced our current challenges and we will continue to improve on attempting to provide the same quality of education and care for our children as we did prior to the pandemic. I respectfully continue to ask for your understanding and patience as we encounter many first time situations and questions that will come up during the school year. We will improve upon on much of what we are currently doing through mistakes, reflection, and time.

I could not ask for a better school community to get through these challenging times with than the Pleasant Lake Elementary School Community. It is our goal to continue to be the high performing, positive, and welcoming school that we were prior to the pandemic.

Please note the following:

  • Be sure to send your child to school with the appropriate outdoor wear. Remember children will ALWAYS go outside for recess unless the “feel like” temperature is 0 degrees or below. I also strongly recommend that your child wear water proof gloves and not cloth gloves.
  • Mark your calendars for Parent Teacher Conferences on Thursday, January 28th. Conference sign up will not be done through Skyward Family Access this school year. Conferences will be conducted via Zoom and your classroom teacher will send you the conference sign up link within the next two weeks. School will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. and conferences held from 12:15 p.m.-8:15 p.m. on Thursday, January 28th.

Thank you for your continued support and Together We Learn, Together We Lead!

Respectfully,

Nayal Maktari

Pleasant Lake Arrival & Dismissal Information

Dear Pleasant Lake Elementary Parents,

This is an important reminder regarding our drop off and pick up procedures. Please comply with the following for the safety of our children, staff volunteering their time to help, and drivers:

  • Cars CANNOT enter the bus loop during arrival and dismissal times. The bus loops are reserved simply for our school busses and we do not want cars jeopardizing the safety of our children exiting the bus and/or cause any traffic related issues.
  • We are allowing both lanes to be used during morning drop off to accommodate the increased volume of cars in the morning.
  • Cars are NOT allowed to park and have children enter through the main doors during morning drop off.
  • Please make sure to pick up your child by 3:30 p.m. in in the case of an emergency or scheduled appointment.
  • ALL drivers are expected to treat each other and our staff volunteering at arrival and dismissal with courtesy and respect.

We have a great school community and rarely have any issues at arrival and dismissal. I also understand that some drivers are still getting acclimated to our arrival and dismissal processes, but I will not allow any drivers to purposely jeopardize our children’s safety and/or treat others who are volunteering their time to ensure our children arrive to and leave from school in an unkind manner.

Please note that any drivers that I deem are not being safe either through their actions and/or language will be referred to the West Bloomfield Police Department.

You can contact me directly at nayalmaktari@wlcsd.org if you have any questions regarding the before mentioned information.

Thank you for your support.

CONGRATULATIONS 2020-2021 PTSA REFLECTION PARTICIPANTS!
