HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 3 Week 2 - 31 July 2020

FROM GEORDIE
Afternoon everyone,
The term is now in full swing and our students are all in great form here at Holy Rosary. I have loved looking out over the oval each morning to see our sports teams practising for the upcoming carnivals with so much passion and enthusiasm. I would like to send a huge ‘shout out’ to all the parents and teachers who have been involved in training the kids, they are absolutely loving it!
Next Friday is our celebration of St Dominic's Day and I know that our students are really looking forward to it. I forgot to mention in the mini-newsletter earlier this week that students are invited to wear appropriate free dress on this day. Thanks to all the parents who have offered to help out in many different ways. It should be a blast!
Over the past months I have been finalising places for Kindy 2021 and next week I will be starting to conduct Kindy interviews for 2022. I would like to thank our community for the way they have spread the word about our great school. I have had some encouraging conversations with new parents who have heard about all the great things that happen here and the welcoming and inclusive community that we our families contribute to. As a parent of young children myself, this is the type of community I want my family to be a part of.
I hope you all have a great weekend, my kids are going to have a big sleepover with Nan-Tan and Grandad and are sure to come home on Sunday full of sugar and with little sleep! It will of course, be worth it to have a nice meal and a sleep in!

Un Finished Objects Craft Group
The two Annes have been using their skills to complete a patchwork quilt UFO. Last Wednesday they put the backing and filler on using two tables to accommodate the work which was then machined together. It has been a task of patience and persistence to honour Joan Berry’s initial work. We meet again in August on Wednesday 12th and 26th at 9.30 – 11.30am. Dare I say bring along your UFO!

GENERAL

As part of our Newman Parents information series, the College has an upcoming FREE parent session which I thought might be of interest to your community. The Newman Parents series is NOT exclusive to Newman families and we welcome all parents and guardians from our extended Catholic community.
For the first time, the College is welcoming Jocelyn Brewer one of Australia’s first formal Cyber-Psychologists. The topic she will be presenting is:
Untangling your tweens & teens from technology: Practical (and positive) strategies for parents.
In this 90-minute session, Jocelyn will share her expertise and help parents and carers better understand aspects of technology, apps and video game design. Through this knowledge parents will build skills to communicate with their child and create a positive framework for shaping healthy tech habits. The presentation will be followed by a Question and Answer session.
When: Wednesday 26 August, 7.00pm – 8.30pm
Where: Newman College Auditorium, 216 Empire Avenue Churchlands
RSVP: jo.dunn@cewa.edu.au
This session is for parents only. We hope that parents will use the information they learn to better educate themselves.
