Back to School Planning Update
Learning Models & Masks
Dear Adrian Public School Families,
I am hopeful that you and your family are doing well! Thank you to those of you that have completed the survey previously sent out. If you have not had a chance to do so, please take the time to fill it out as we want to hear from each of you to best plan for success for the year.
The Adrian staff, along with Adrian Bus Company and the Lunchtime Solutions staff, have been planning and brainstorming for the start of the 2020-2021 school year under the guidance of the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and Minnesota Department of Education (MDE). The three different scenarios allowed for school include an in-person traditional setting, a hybrid structure (including some in-person), and a distance learning format.
The MDE will announce on July 30th the specific plan that will be allowed for the start of the school year. The district plans will be released shortly after the announcement; we plan to start school on Tuesday, September 8th.
Families and individuals have different health needs and concerns regarding health and safety along with what is best for learning. With this in mind, it is important for you to know that Adrian will be offering a distance learning option at all times for those students that have medical conditions or for those that feel uncomfortable sending their children to school. After releasing our district plans, we will send out an additional survey to collect your specific intentions for your students' learning mode for the fall.
Face Masks
With the MN Governor's executive order 20-81, all people coming into district buildings need to wear a face mask beginning Saturday, July 25th. This includes students participating in the current summer workouts or indoor summer rec opportunities. The guidance states masks must be worn indoors when around other people. Masks may be removed when under physical exertion, but must be worn again when exertion has been removed. Strict social distancing must be adhered to when the mask is off. All people five and older must wear masks unless a medical condition dictates otherwise. A doctor's note stating so given to school staff will suffice in documenting a condition.
As you know, COVID 19 causes even some of the best intended plans to change. We will continue to keep families informed. Your patience, flexibility, and support is very much appreciated during these challenging times for all of us.
Sincerely,
Molly Schilling, Superintendent
