Varsity Girls Soccer - Coach Erpelding
Louisburg- Senior Night
What a Senior Night it was!! These girls have had this game circled since the last time we played them. They felt we let one get away when we played at Louisburg. So to have this game be Senior Night gave it that much more juice for us. The girls played great!!! Getting a 2-0 against a very good team was huge for us and our confidence! This is the first time either the boys or girls team has beaten Louisburg since I've been at Eudora! It's also the first time we have scored on them in 6 games on the girls side! This game was exciting from beginning to end! It was a very open game, both teams creating chances, both teams controlling possession at different times. It was a very even game. The only difference is we made things happen and finished and our defense and keeper was better! We got the first goal when senior Kate Erpelding ran down a ball that was going out of bounds. She played a cross-in that deflected back to seniorAlex Pascua. Alex then played a great ball across that freshman Xin Clobes got on the end of and hit a great shot that was headed for goal. One of their Centerbacks raised her arm and blocked the ball for a PK. Kate calmly stepped up and put it away off the post and in. Their keeper didn't have a chance. At half we talked about where to attack. Well within the first few minutes we did it. Xin found freshman Jayla Erpelding in the middle then Jayla turned and played a great ball across to Alex. Alex then went to goal pulled the ball back beautifully and hit a perfect curler to the back post. Not sure she could have hit it any sweeter than what she did. We had a couple more chances that we let get away especially on corners but 2 proved to be enough. Our defense was strong last night! Senior Leah Williams was solid as usual, making 3 big saves! She had 8 on the night but three were big ones. Junior Mallory Vickers and freshman Lauren Grauberger continue to get better and more comfortable playing together and last night they looked really good. Senior Rachel Pratt continues to grow into her role and really has become a solid holding mid for us. Senior Harleigh Moore has been gutting out an ankle injury and at the same time being a lockdown defender. Freshmen Harper Andrews and Kyleigh Musick just continue to get better and better and are learning to read and react quicker and quicker. Heck when we dropped Kate to play a third Centerback, Harp was comfortable and confident enough to move herself up and play like a winger. I loved it! Everyone is really getting better every day!
@Bonner
The game Friday was a great win for us but a very bizarre one at the same time. Yes, we won 9-1, but if you took away the scoreboard and watched the game you would have never guessed the score would be that decisive. During the first half, they were a step or three faster to every 50/50 ball. I think we won two balls out of the air from Leah's punts or goal kicks. I don't know exactly why but we watched a lot. They'd win the ball and come at us. But we did play pretty solid defense. We created turnovers and countered and their backline was slow and very spread out. So once we won the ball we just played it long. The first three goals were scored by Kate for her first hat trick of the year and maybe career. Alex had two Assists to her and Jayla had one. All three were 1 on 1's with the keeper and Kate calmly tucked them away. The fourth was from Jayla in the same type of fashion. Kate played a through ball that Jayla ran down and shot it off the keeper and then put the rebound away. We were 4-0 at the half. We dodged a few bullets by either a near miss or Leah save. Leah saved a PK on a very questionable foul in the box by Mallory. Leah got horizontal and saved the PK before it got to the net. It was a fantastic save! We had several other chances to go up even more but we just didn't finish.
In the second half, it was very similar. We create a turnover and countered. Xin got the first one of the half when she received a through ball from someone. I'll have to watch the film. She dribbled in and put her shot right past a poorly positioned keeper. This was Xin's first goal of her varsity career. Xin almost got another one as she got another through ball and took a shot which the keeper saved and it deflected off. Senior Brylee Graff followed up and put the rebound away. Alex got her first as she picked up a ball in out half and literally dribbled all the way to a 1on1 with the keeper, with little to no resistance. She dribbled right up and put her shot away. Senior Grace Schieferecke got the first of her career as well. Alex played a corner in and the ball bounced around and when the keeper tried to clear it. Grace was right there to block it and deflect it into the goal. Great hustle goal! The last goal came with about 56 seconds left. We got a set piece from about 25 out. The keeper was well above the six. Alex noticed this and asked the ref if it was direct. It was so she put a high lofting shot in up over the keeper and into the back of the net.
We did have a couple of injuries happen to Leah, Mallory, and Kyleigh. So Kate had to go in goal with about 25 left. Leah and Kate combine for 13 saves. Lauren has the best game of her young career. She was a beast! I don't know how many challenges she won but it was a lot! She was awesome!
Overall we played pretty well, but we finished really well. We did look tired a lot of the game but that was to be expected.
We have Tonganoxie tonight for a league game. JV will be at 430 with Varsity to follow.
JV Girls Soccer - Coach Weirick
JV @ Louisburg:
The squad played a great game against Louisburg and we ended in a 0-0 tie. This was the first time that we haven't been scored on by Louisburg (as a JV squad). We absolutely improved as a team since playing them at the beginning of the season. I think this says a lot about our team. We did have a few scoring opportunities including a few great shots by freshmen Xin Clobes and Kortlyn Shockley. I will say that I was proud of how we did not just kick the ball but instead, we were connecting passes which did allow those scoring opportunities.
JV @ Bonner:
Wow, we played a great game against Bonner and won 5-1. One of my favorite parts about this game was the fact that each goal was scored by a different individual! Goals scored by: Freshman Kyleigh Musick, freshman Caitlin Peterson, junior Madison Grosdidier, freshman Addison Metcalf, and freshman Kortlyn Shockley. We played really well as a team and honestly had so many scoring opportunities. The Bonner girls did not play on our half for pretty much the entire game. Thanks to our awesome midfield: Junior Riley Steinman, Xin Clobes, Madison Grosdidier, freshman Natalynn Tuckness, and sophomore Alexis Frost. I also was pretty proud of Caitlin Peterson, as I had her play wing for the first time all year and she did it with ease. Great work, Caitlin!
Excited for the games this week. We play Tongie and Ottawa!
Varsity Softball - Coach Finucane
4/27/21
Game 1 vs. Ottawa.
Junior Harper Schreiner led the Cardinals with 5 hits in their 9-1 defeat of Ottawa. Schreiner doubled in the first, singled in the second, doubled in the fourth, and singled in the sixth and singled in the seventh. The Cardinals plated three runs in the first inning with senior Jayla Pierce driving in the first run with a single. Eudora added one run in the 2nd, one run in the 3rd, and three runs in the 6th, and a final run in the 7th on a home run by freshman Kenzie Yoder to put the game out of reach to certainly surprise Ottawa. Junior Kira Baker earned the win allowing six hits, one run and striking out 10.
The Cardinals saw the ball well in this game, racking up 14 hits in the game. Schreiner, junior Elli Han, Jayla Pierce, and Kira Baker all managed multiple hits for the varsity. The defense was also very good with Eudora having no errors in the game.
Game 2 vs. Ottawa
In the second game of the evening, the Cardinals varsity dispatched Ottawa 16-4. The game started out close with Eudora scoring one run in the 2nd inning on a double by freshman Lilly Rife. Ottawa tied it up in the bottom of the second and in the top of the 3rd Eudora added two runs on a home run by Harper Schreiner after sophomore Sawyer Schreiner got on with a hit, making the score 3-1. Ottawa scored one run in their half of the third, Eudora 3 - Ottawa 2. Eudora added another run in the top of the 4th on a single by sophomore Addison Woods scoring Jayla Pierce who was on 3rd base. Eudora continued hitting the ball well adding three runs in the 5th with Kira Baker driving in Jayla Pierce and Elli Han with a base hit. Addison Woods then doubled to drive in Baker. Three more runs were added by Eudora in the 6th, on a double by Pierce driving in freshman Parker Long, then on a single by Baker to drive in Elli Han and Jayla Pierce with two outs. Ottawa added one run in the 6th. Then Eudora blew it open in the top of the 7th inning by scoring six runs, with Jayla Pierce driving in two with a double, Sawyer Schreiner and Harper Schreiner both scoring. Then Kira Baker singled driving in Parker Long and Pierce. Final score Eudora 16 Ottawa 4.
Freshman Rylee Griffin was the winning pitcher for Eudora allowing 10 hits, 4 runs over the 7 innings striking out 4. The Cardinals tallied 20 hits in the game with Pierce, Baker, Kenzie Yoder, Addison Woods, Lilly Rife, Sawyer Schreiner, Harper Schreiner each having multiple hits in the game. Woods, Yoder, Baker, and Pierce all had three hits to lead Eudora.
4/29/21
Eudora vs. Tonganoxie.
Eudora Cardinals Varsity defeats Tonganoxie in 7 innings 8-2 with Eudora scoring 5 runs in the first inning to give them a nice cushion to start the game.
Harper Schreiner started the game off in the bottom of the first with a single, stole second, advanced to third on a single by Rylee Griffin, then scored on a single by Jayla Pierce. Griffin then scored on an error by the catcher. Kira Baker reaches first base as Jayla Pierce advanced to third. Freshman Harlie Dougherty comes in to run for Baker, Pierce scores on a passed ball as Dougherty advances to third on the same pitch. In the next at bat, Dougherty scores on a wild pitch. Lilly Rife scores the final run of the inning for Eudora.
Eudora added three runs in the bottom half of the 2nd inning on a single by Harper Schreiner, stolen base, advanced to third on a single by Rylee Griffin, Elli Han walked to load the bases. Jayla Pierce singles to drive in Schreiner. Then a force out at home for two outs, Lilly Rife walks forcing in Elli Han, and the final run of the inning coming after a walk to junior Taylor Hadl forcing in Jayla Pierce. Eudora 8 - Tonganoxie 0. The Eudora bats went silent the rest of the way with Tonganoxie scoring a run each in the 6th and 7th innings.
Kira Baker got the win for the Cardinals allowing three hits, two runs over the seven innings, striking out 15. The Eudora offense was led by 10 hits with Harper Schreiner, Jayla Pierce, and Rylee Griffin each having multiple hits.
JV Softball - Coach Hodges
Eudora Girls JV Softball played a Double Header with Ottawa on Tuesday, April 27th. The first game started out with a 4 - 0 run by Eudora. Junior Rylee Calhoon started us off with a walk, followed by sophomore Bree Gabel, freshman Lilly Cooper, and sophomore Sarah Watts. Junior Harlie Dougherty hit a single to score our first runs and sophomore Eliza Fewins hit a single to score a few more runs. Eudora started off well scoring 6 runs in the 1st inning. Ottawa came up to the plate to score 7 runs on our defense in the 1st inning. Eudora bats went cold the rest of the game and lost 6-11.
In the second game, our offense continued to struggle with the exception of a few great hits by sophomore Kallie Harper. Unfortunately even those hard hits couldn’t find the hole to score any runs. Junior Rylee Calhoon hit a double and freshman Blythe Fewins with a double, but couldn’t get a score. We went scoreless in the second game with a score 0-10.
Eudora Girls JV played a single game against Tonganoxie on Thursday, April 29th. Our bats struggled at the plate for 2 innings. In the 3rd inning, Tonganoxie scored a run, but in the bottom of the 4th, senior Kourtney Balluch and freshman Blythe Fewins walked freshman Rylee Griffin hit a ball to the left side to score a run. The game was tied 1-1 until the 6th inning. Sophomore Sawyer Schreiner hit a single to right, Blythe Fewins hit a single to move the runner, Rylee Griffin stepped up and hit a double to score 2 runs. Lilly Cooper hit a single to right side to get on base and Kourtney Balluch hit a single to left side, along with Harlie Dougherty to score another run. The defense held Tongaxie in the 7th inning to win 4-2. Freshman Rylee Griffin with the win at the dish.
Next scheduled game will be a single game with Louisburg on Tuesday, May 4th, at 4:30 pm.
Varsity Baseball - Coach Kilmer
Tuesday April 27
@ Ottawa
Game 1
Senior Sebastian Lewis took the mound in game 1 and picked up where he had left off after the Baldwin perfect game. He shut out Ottawa through 5 innings and carried a 1-0 lead into the 6th. A long flyball dropped between right and center for a double and was followed by a walk and then an error on a sacrifice bunt which opened the door and lead to 4 Ottawa runs. The offense stepped up to get back into the game. Sebastian walked and went to 3rd on junior Trenton Long’s single. Long then stole 2nd and Lewis stole home on the throw to 2nd. But the rally ended there with the tying run at the plate.
Eudora took the lead in the 3rd when senior Will Schreiner doubled, courtesy runner senior Nathan Criqui advanced on a wild pitch and senior Dylan Meier walked. Then a ground ball double play scored Criqui and put the Cards up going into the bottom of the 6th. Ottawa is the league leaders and are undefeated in league play. The Cards proved they could play with the best in the league and Ottawa had to feel like they stole game one, final 2-4.
Game 2
Game 2 started with the Cards on fire. Junior Bryce Clark starts the inning off with a double, senior Gavin Hobson reached on a dropped strike 3, and senior Keaton Herron doubles in both those runners. Keaton would then score on Sebastian Lewis’ single. The hot start cooled off as the Cards could only add one more run for the game. In the 4th, junior Taggert Courter walked, advanced to third on Bryce Clark’s single and scored on a Gavin Hobson sacrifice fly.
The defense and pitching slipped in this game as the Cards committed 5 errors and gave up 13 runs on 11 hits. Final 4-13
Friday April 30
@ Lansing
Game 1
The offense did all it needed to do, scoring 9 runs on 9 hits. Bryce Clark led the charge with 3 hits, followed by Will Schreiner’s 2 hits. Sebastian Lewis, senior Zeke Reazin, sophomore Mason Cox, and Taggert Courter also added hits.
As sharp as the offense was, pitching and defense again struggled. To say we struggled with our command is an understatement. The pitchers issued 9 walks and hit 7 other batters, 16 free bases. The defense compounded the trouble as it committed 6 errors. With all of those free bases being issued, it was amazing the game was as close as it was, final 9-13.
Game 2
With 2 outs in the 1st inning, Keaton Herron walked, Sebastian Lewis walked and both advanced twice on wild pitches, which scored Herron. Trenton Long doubled in Lewis, and Zeke Reazin singled in Long. The Cards picked up their last run in the 6th when Lewis doubled and later scored on a Lansing error.
For the third game in a row the pitching and defense couldn’t stop the opponents allowing 14 runs, final 4-14.
JV Baseball - Coach Mathern
Coming off a 6 game winning streak we thought we could just show up and go through the motions and get a win. The first game was probably the poorest we have played as a team. We were not throwing strikes and when we did throw strikes we had way too many errors in the field. On top of that our bats just were not there. I do not believe that their pitchers were that great but for some reason we just could not make solid contact on the ball. We would go on to lose game one 4-19
Game 2 we got off to a better start. Pitchers threw strikes and we hit the ball fairly well. We still could not get outs due to the amount of errors we had. That being said Ottawa is probably the best batting team we have seen. They know how to make solid contact on the ball and really drive it. I don't think they are good enough to beat us twice but when we play like that they can. We ended up losing game two 6-7.
We well continue to work and get better every day. I look forward to getting back to practice and seeing how we bounce back.

In these times of limited attendance, we strive to be able to offer all we can to our fans and students to be able to watch our events whether at home or on the road. Please go to NFHSnetwork.com and search for Eudora High School to see upcoming events your Cardinals are competing in. Thank you to all parents and spectators for your support and understanding during this year of unprecedented changes.
To subscribe to the NFHS Network go to www.NFHSnetwork.com, search for Eudora High School, and subscribe. This will be a great way for friends and family members who can’t make the game to watch their favorite Cardinal compete.
