Principal's Message
Dear St. Maria Goretti Catholic School Families,
Students in grades 3rd-7th will be taking the IOWA and COGAT tests this week. This will be a no homework week for these students. Please make sure that your child is well rested and has breakfast before coming to school. The 8th grade will take the Classical Learning Test (CLT) on Wednesday, September 14, 2022. Visit this link for information regarding CLT:
https://smgschool.org/documents/2022/9/The%20CLT%20Advantage.pdf
During the testing week, students will be completing the Protecting God's Children training in their religion classes. OPT-OUT forms were due back to the office last Friday, September 9, 2022.
8th-grade parents, mark your calendar for Tuesday, September 20, 2022. We will hold an 8th-grade parent meeting in the library from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM. We will be discussing all things 8th grade. Cassata High School and Nolan Catholic principals will be on hand to discuss the enrollment process for next year.
Our first Home and School Meeting of the year is on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at 7:00 PM in the cafetorium. Home and School is our parent organization and YOU are a member! You are signed up when you pay your dues at the beginning of the year. I would like to see at least one parent there from every family in attendance to support our school. We will have child care that evening. See the Home and School Corner later in the Trojan Times. There will be a lot of information about KK presented at this meeting, including a presentation from Mrs. Parker about student organization and self-advocacy, and a performance by our 3rd-grade class. Parents who attend earn a Spirit hour and your child(ren) will earn a jeans dress-down day on Friday, September 23, 2022. Please come and support your school.
Please pray for all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
St. Maria Goretti, Pray for Us!
Blessings,
Amy Utendorf, M.Ed.

SMGCS Student Club Fundraisers
Home and School Association Corner
Home and School Association is having a meeting Tuesday, Sept. 20th, at 7 pm. We invite all parents to join us in the cafetorium to share in fellowship and community. Did I mention we’ll be giving away prizes and by attending you will earn your students a jean day? We will be presenting some insightful information.
- Mrs. Parker and our wonderful Social Worker Interns will be presenting some valuable information during our meeting: "Self-Efficacy, From the Roots Up". Is your child struggling with organizing themselves this year? Does it feel like you have tried everything to help your child in their academics? If you relate to these statements, come join a presentation given by the UTA social workers about Self Efficacy! During this time there will be discussion around helping your child find their independence, but further than that there will be ways to help you as a parent facilitate this growth in your child. We look forward to seeing you on September 20th!
- We will also hear from Mrs. Sferra and Mrs. Perez about all the ways we can help with Kountry Karnival.
- Mrs. Bradley plans to share the importance of SCRIP and how we can get the most out of it.
- Mrs. Richards will lead our wonderful 3rd graders in song.
We will provide childcare, as this is an adult only meeting. Please RSVP if you will need childcare. If you have middle school children that would like to help with childcare and earn service hours or you would like to volunteer to help with childcare, please sign up in the link provided.

Support Our School! Use SCRIP/RaiseRight
RaiseRight is formerly known as Scrip. This program allows you to raise funds for our school and your family by using gift cards instead of cash or credit for everyday purchases like gas, groceries, dining out, coffee and your family's vacation.
3 Ways to Purchase SCRIP/RaiseRight:
1. Use this Order Form.
2. In person at the school's front office or during Scrip Office Hours.
- School's front office hours: 7:30-3:30 Monday-Friday
- Scrip office hours: 8-9am Monday or 8-9am Friday
3. Online using the enrollment code to make online purchases.
- Create an account on the RaiseRight app or at RaiseRight.com using SMG's enrollment code: BE34A236113L2
Support Our School! Use Box Tops for Education App
Box Tops for Education has been around for over 25 years, and it really can make a difference. In fact, the Box Tops program has helped give almost one billion dollars to schools since 1996.
HERE’S HOW IT WORKS: Buy participating products and use the Box Tops app to scan your store receipt. The app identifies eligible products and earnings are credited to SMGCS. Even if you’re shopping online or doing grocery pickup, you can still submit your digital or email receipt with the Box Tops app and earn. Twice a year, our school gets a check!
Box Tops earnings really add up, and the more people that participate, the bigger the impact we can make. See a list of participating products at:

Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary
SMGCS celebrated the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary on September 8th with cupcakes at lunch.
Saint Augustine described the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary as an event of cosmic and historic significance, and an appropriate prelude to the birth of Jesus Christ. “She is the flower of the field from whom bloomed the precious lily of the valley,” he said.

Mass
Father Stan demonstrated how we are so attached to the "things" in our life and how they get in the way of showing love. Oliver was holding all of the "things" when Father Stan asked Oliver to hug him. All of the "things" got in the way of showing his love.

Rubiks Cube Club
The Rubik’s Cube was invented in 1974 by Ernõ Rubik, a Hungarian architecture professor. Rubik created the Cube as a learning exercise to teach his students about 3-dimensional spaces. Little did he know his “Magic Cube” (as he originally named it) would become one of world’s most famous puzzles of all time!
