Holiday Concert News
This year the DAIS chorus, band, and orchestra would like to invite families to contribute to the DAIS PTO backpack program during our annual holiday concerts. The purpose of this program is to provide a bag of nonperishable food items to children in need to take home each weekend when school meals are not accessible. Please consider bringing a nonperishable food item or giving a monetary donation at any of the holiday concerts on December 3, 4, or 13. Please check below for a list of single serve food items recommended to support the program. What a great way to encourage generosity towards our own DAIS students in need!
We sincerely thank you for your consideration in helping DAIS students in need by supporting the DAIS PTO Backpack Program this holiday!
A special dedication...
The Dallastown Area Intermediate School Music Department would like to honor Mr. Richard Auen, former DAIS Band Instructor, on his retirement. Mr. Auen dedicated countless years serving young musicians at Dallastown and took pride in his work. To celebrate Mr. Auen, a piece of music has been commissioned in his honor.
The piece was written by composer Brian Balmages, one of Mr. Auen’s favorite composers for young bands. The piece has been published by FJH Music, © 2018. When the piece was commissioned, Mrs. McComas shared information with Brian Balmages regarding the size and quality of DAIS Band ensembles. This information allowed him to craft a beautiful piece of music designed specifically for our DAIS students that would celebrate Mr. Auen.
The title “Radiance” was chosen by Mr. Balmages, and his reason for choosing that title is quoted below.
“The title and its meaning come from the dedication of the work. Commissioned by Dallastown Area Intermediate School (York, Pennsylvania), the work was written to honor band director Richard Auen on the occasion of his upcoming retirement. “Radiance” speaks to the light that he has shown on students for decades and will continue to shine long after he retires.”
This is a surprise gift for Mr. Auen. He will be in attendance for the concert and the premier of Radiance by the 6th grade band. Former students, colleagues, and friends are encouraged to attend this special celebration on Thursday, December 13 at 7:00 pm. A recording of the piece can be heard HERE.
We invite you to make a contribution towards Mr. Auen’s dedicated piece, which will be a permanent addition to our DAIS Music Library. Please complete the contribution form and return it to the Red Community Office by Monday, December 10. Contributors will be recognized in the concert program.
Thank you for your consideration.
