STUDENT SCHEDULE CLARIFICATION
Attention all families: We seem to have some confusion regarding the student schedule. Students in Cohort A and B have virtual classes and live/in-person classes here at BHS. Students are required to attend both their virtual classes and their in-person classes. The classes are different sessions; they are not a repeat of what we do in live classes. Please check to ensure that your student is attending both sessions.
As a reminder, the schedule can be found on our BHS Smart Start site: https://sites.google.com/bremertonschools.org/bhs-smart-start-2020-2021/home
REMINDERS FOR BHS FAMILIES
- Students will get their new attestation card for the month of May when they come to school next week. Please remember to sign the card each day.
- Gaiters - neck gaiters are not permitted at school. They do not replace the mask requirement. Students are welcome to wear a gaiter either under or over a face mask, but a mask must be worn at all times.
- Attendance - students in Cohort A and B are required to attend both their live/in-person classes and their virtual classes. They are not the same class. If students do not attend both, they are missing 50% of their class work and learning.

STATE TESTING ASSESSMENTS UPDATE
In the past, our state has required students to take the Smarter Balanced assessments (SBA) each spring. These tests are required for federal accountability.
The Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) has made the decision to move its testing window to fall 2021. This will allow educators to focus on engaging their students over the last couple months of school and on preparing for this fall. OSPI believes testing as usual this spring would not provide reliable or meaningful results; nor does it support the mental health of students.
Please see Superintendent Reykdal’s statement and the OSPI
fact sheet for more information
THANK YOU - FROM THE CAST
Many thanks to the families, students, and school staff who came out to support the spring play, Game of Tiaras. The cast and crew had a great run, and although the virtual environment was not ideal, they rose to every challenge and created a great show. If you missed it, you can watch a recording of Saturday evening's performance here!
STUDENT PANDEMIC EBT CARDS
All families in the Bremerton School District* qualified for Round #2 Pandemic EBT funds. Families did not have to enroll as all families in the District qualified based on the rate families receiving free and reduced lunches in our District. These cards can be used to purchase food.
The Bremerton School District is not administering this program but want to reassure you that the letters from DSHS and the cards are legitimate. Learn more on the DSHS website. For questions, call #(833)518-0282.
