"Patriot's Pen" Winners Present Their Essays at Veterans Day Ceremony
On Friday morning, several Hobart Middle School students were among a crowd of Hobart residents and honored Veterans attending a celebration at Veterans' Memorial Park in Hobart. HMS students Ryson Williams, Ella Jones, and Elizabeth Howard read their winning essays from the "Patriot's Pen" contest.
HHS students Kayla Walker, Rylee Elkins, and Nikolina Latinovic also had prize-winning entries from the "Voice Of Democracy" essay contest, and will present their winning works (along with the aforementioned HMS winners) at next week's school board meeting. Both of these contests are sponsored by the VFW, and are dedicated to promoting patriotism and investing in our future generation. Special thanks to local VFW 5365 for sponsoring our Brickies and awarding prizes for their winning essays.

Wolffgang and HHS JROTC Honor Veterans at Lake County Parks Ceremony
On Saturday morning, members of Hobart High School JROTC and Wolffgang took part in the Lake County Parks Veteran's Day Ceremony held at Stoney Run County Park. The event is normally held at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial there, but with the intense wind, it was moved to a shelter nearby and visitors were encouraged to visit the memorial afterward. All the students did great! Several of the veterans talked with the JROTC kids following the ceremony, and it seemed to mean a lot to them seeing kids take an interest in something that was and is so important to them. There was not a dry eye when the girls of Wolffgang sang America the Beautiful. The Lake County Parks event staff was super grateful to have both groups attend, especially considering the unfavorable weather! Thank you to both of these groups for representing the Brickies so well; and of course, we extend our unending gratitude to our Veterans.
It's been a week full of accomplishments and celebrations for our Brickies! The students of the School City of Hobart continue to make us proud as they show us how to #BeExcellentOnPurpose! Mrs. Pratt's 8th Grade PLTW Students Show Innovation and Grit With Fundraising Project
Check out this amazing fundraising project Mrs. Pratt's 8th grade PLTW students have been working hard on! Mrs. Pratt said, "They were anxious to get started on production. The production line was set up and the expectation was that they had to show me their finished assignment before they can take a job on the production line. To say they were motivated to complete work is an understatement, they're excited. They are more excited by the fact that people want to invest in something they made. This is what project/problem-based learning is all about!" So proud of you all; way to #BeExcellentOnPurpose!
Here at the School City of Hobart, we take pride in making sure all of our students have the means to succeed. Sometimes this requires extra study time outside of the classroom. Click the button below for a list of some great websites for assistance and tutoring info!
