News from Mr. West about The Michigan Design Prize Contest
It is time for the Roosevelt Huskies to get ready to enter the Michigan Design Prize Contest!
Last year, thanks to the help of our amazing STEAM partners, we not only had winners, but received bronze, silver and gold in every Elementary Category!
We would love for you..and your colleagues and friends, to join us this year for two amazing opportunities! NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED!
On February 25th from 9:30-1:30 we will be hosting our second annual Day of Design! Every student at Roosevelt will be spending the morning working on their entry for the Design Prize Contest! No experience is necessary! Students will come to you with a design and their materials and you will help them turn their designs into a prototype! Our goal is to have 1 mentor for every 3 students! You can come for the whole morning, or just for an hour! This is an amazing experience to watch the students turn their visions into something they can see and touch!
If you are unable to join us on this Day of Design or have extra time to spare, we will have opportunities every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning the entire month of February for our littlest designers! Our First Graders need a little more one on one attention!
Please email Mrs. Roth carrie.roth@wbsd.org to volunteer for this awesome day!

Healthy Husky Habbits
Hello Huskies!
It’s a new year with plenty of new opportunities to stay healthy! Our #FitWithFamily board is looking awesome in the gym, but there is plenty of room for more pictures. If you have not already done so, please send Ms. Barnes a picture of your child/children doing something healthy or active. For example, some activities are dancing, playing a sport, drinking water, eating vegetables, etc. Your child will receive a green PACK BUCK for turning in a picture!
We want to show off our Healthy Husky Habits! Please send all pictures to haley.barnes@wbsd.org. If your child brings in a picture, please let them know whether or not you want the picture back at the end of the year. Thank you!

More on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Festivities
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade & Assembly
Our school held our annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade this month. This parade gave the students the opportunity to discuss in their class the message of unity and create an image that they felt represented Dr. King’s dream. The students walked in our Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade with these images. The parade concluded with a school-wide assembly sharing a message of unity and peace.
United We Walk
Our district-wide Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration called United We Walk took place on Sunday, January 19, at WBHS. Roosevelt Elementary was represented very well with several students, staff, and families participating in the program, walk, and community service activities.
