JCISD: Whole Child
May 2019
Mental Health Awareness Month
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. This year marks Mental Health America’s 70th year celebrating! For 2019 Mental Health America is exploring several different new topics as ways to boost mental health and general wellness, expanding upon last years theme #4mind4body. These new topics include animal companionship (including pets and support animals), spirituality, humor, work-life balance, and recreation and social connections. To download this years toolkit exploring these areas click here! The 2019 Annual Conference (Dueling Diagnoses: Mental Health and Chronic Conditions in Children and Adults) will be held in Washington D.C. June 13-15.
Whole Child Collaborative
35 members of the Whole Child Collaborative made up of school personnel and community agencies/organizations met on April 30th, 2019 to continue the work of the Whole Child. The meeting expanded on the member's knowledge around the Whole Child Framework, diving into the 10 Whole Child Components. Several speakers were there to discuss their role and how they fit into the Multi Tier System of Support Framework as Tier 1, 2 and 3 supports falling under the component Counseling, Psychological, and Social Service Supports for Students. It was a very informative meeting and there is exciting work being done through the Whole Child Team at the ISD in partnership with many districts and agencies.
