Speech, Language, and Mindfulness

with Mrs. Nancy Bennett, M.S., CCC-SLP

Welcome to Westwood's speech corner

During the warm months of summer we want to ensure our children are still using their best speech at home. Good communication habits happen not only at school, but also at home, where:

  • Students
  • Practice and
  • Exercise
  • Excellent
  • Communication
  • Habits

Scroll down for a variety of activities that can be done at home. Some are quick, some require more time. You decide what works best for your family. And please reach out to me if you have any questions. My contact information is at the bottom of the page.

Thank you for all your hard work and dedication this school year! We appreciate your support and flexibility during these tough times. May your summer be filled with well deserved relaxation. See you in the fall :-)

Resources to keep your child(ren) talking

A few minutes a day can make a huge difference

Please talk to your child(ren) regularly. Read, play, sing, and read some more.

Articulation

Here are some great activities to help with articulation. Practice only the sounds that your child is able to say correctly. If you hear an error, move on to another sound. If you need pictures, click here and select the sound you wish to practice.

Breathe In, Breathe Out

If you double the length of your exhale, you will trigger a relaxation response. For example, breathe in for a count of 4 and breathe out for a count of 8. All you need are a few rounds to feel less stressed. Have your child join you.

Printable packets

If you prefer to work with pencil and paper with your child(ren), I've got you covered. Here is a packet that you can print from home. Please be sure to look through it before you print, so you only print pages that are relevant for your child. If you are not sure which pages to try, please reach out to me. Or you can print the single page March, April, or May homework pages also included below in the archives.

Contact information

Reach out to me anytime at bennettn@mdusd.org. I also encourage your son or daughter to email me. I would love to hear from them.
