A Message from the Principal:
Dear North Parents,
We are excited to announce that next week is our annual Charity Week. Each year our student leaders choose an organization to which they’d like to donate, and this year they’ve chosen Kids on the Go. This wonderful organization provides physical, occupational, speech and recreational therapies for children with special needs. Our students have worked very hard to organize a wide variety of activities to generate financial support for this fantastic cause. Some of you have already donated your time and resources; thank you! Please take a moment to check out the details below and see if there is a way you could support. Thank you!
Take Care,
Dr. Kathryn C. Murray

These monthly meetings provide a space for parents and other members of our school community to discuss topics around inclusivity. We also aim to be a conduit between the personal mission of our members and action groups in our communities doing the work around these topics.
Attention all choir parents:
It's a new year (albeit a month in!), and we're using the occasion to revive GPN Choir Parent Club meetings, which you're all invited to attend. Here are the details for our first meeting happening this month:
WHAT? Monthly GPN Choir Parent Club meeting
WHO? All parents, guardians, boosters, supporters, etc. of students in any GPN choir
WHEN? Monday, Feb. 13th at 7:00 p.m.
WHERE? GPN Choir Room located at the South side of C Building (park in the back lot and come in the door closest to the choir room)
WHY? Hear what choir activities are planned for the remainder of the school year, meet the Parent Club board members and get answers to any choir-related questions you might have. We'll also be sharing the updated GPN Choir Parent Club Manual.
If you're not able to make it Feb. 13, don't worry. We'll be holding regular meetings on the second Monday of the month (same time, same place), so you'll have several more opportunities to attend throughout the remainder of the school year.
Come hear what's going on with GPN choirs and how we can support our student singers.
Everyone is welcome!
Hello North families! Charity Week is fast approaching (February 6-10), and we wanted to let you know about some of the amazing opportunities you will have to support our selected charity, Kids on the Go. Kids On The Go is a pediatric non-profit program designed to provide children with special needs (3-17 years) with physical, occupational, speech and recreational therapies both over the summer months and during the school year. The mission of Kids On The Go is to recognize and facilitate the goals of children with special needs and to further develop their current skills through therapeutic and wellness programs for the children and their families. Their vision is to provide a safe environment that will foster opportunities for growth, inclusion and provide valuable resources for our community.
We are excited to partner with this incredible organization and hope you will support our efforts! Look for more information soon.

How to contribute in the community:
Counselors will be meeting with students in 9th, 10th, and 11th grades next week to input their course selections for the 23-24 school year during English classes. The completed course selection forms with teacher recommendations and parent signature were due Thursday 2/2. If your student has not turned in their completed form yet, it must be turned in directly to the counseling center by Monday 2/6 or students will not be allowed to submit their course selections on the computer until the make-up date on 2/13. Please encourage your student to get this turned in ASAP if they have not already done so.
Parents, we are organizing a Skilled Trades Career Night on Tuesday February 28th in the Grosse Pointe North Gym from 6-8 pm. We would love to see any interested students and families there to attend the event. We would also encourage any parent who works in a trades field or has connections to participate by setting up a table. If you are interested or know someone who would like to help us make this a success, please contact Jenny Sherman at shermaj@gpschools.org or 313-432-3223.
Wellness Wednesday
Today is the first day of Black History Month. In a recent interview with Justice Kyra Harris Bolden, Michigan’s first Black woman to serve on our supreme court, she stated, “It’s really hard to be what you can’t see.” Her words speak to the importance of representation and the value of highlighting the central role Black people have played in U.S. history. Watch the clip of Justice Kyra Harris Bolden’s interview HERE. You can watch the full interview on Channel 4 tonight at 5:45 pm.
We are lucky to live just 20 minutes from The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. Did you know that Bank of America sponsors one free ticket for Bank of America/Merrill Lynch cardholders on the first weekend of every month!?! If eligible, visit for free this weekend to see and feel Black History in person! Social connection is really important to maintain our mental wellness. See the graphic below to learn more. Make time to get to the museum with a friend this weekend! Connect and celebrate Black History all at the same time! Get your tickets HERE.
